The belt has most likely been stretched and should be replaced.

POWER STEERING PULLEY LOSE. BELT CAME OFF. HOW DO I TIGHTEN THE PULLEY?


To the best of my knowledge, there is only a serpentine belt on that model truck, which means that not only is your power steering not working, but your water pump isn't either. DON'T drive this until it's fixed. My guess is that an idler pulley, or a tensioner is junk. The tensioner is the one that you put a wrench on to get the belt back on, there should be a diagram of that right above the radiator. If that tensioner no longer has tension when you try to put the belt back on, then you need a new one. Sometimes, but rarely an idler pulley will go, which is just a pulley bolted to the block

Try to grease the x-joint (u-joint) it could be tht its dry.
If its worn out you would thn get vibrations at certain speed.

The main belt feel off my 93 saturn SC1


To put a serpentine belt back on your car, you should jack the right side up, and remove the tire first. Remove the plastic cover behind that to gain access to the side of the motor with the pulleys on it. On the side of the motor you will see down low the belt tensioner pulley witch swivels with the use of a wrench, i think it is a 14 or 15 mm wrench which is needed. Put the belt around all the other pulleys in the format they go by the picture under the hood, saving the last part of the belt to go the tensioner.Swivel the tensioner and but the belt over it, and put everything back on in reverse order.

Hi Chris. I would check all the pulleys with the belt off and make sure the alternator, ac pump, power steering pump are all turning fairly easy and that the pulleys havent come loose and started wobbleing alittle.

My timing belt broke


When A timing belt breaks, the best way to see if the engine is still good is to retime the motor, put a new timing belt on without the covers or anything else in the way or replaced, (that way you can see the belt and timing marks moving) and do a compression test one each cylinder. you're not looking for compression to be at specs, you just need to have a compression reading on each cylinder. if you have compression in each one, finish the job up and it should work. if you have no compression in one or more cylinders, chances are you have a bent valve. that involves pulling the heads off and having them gone through.

hint: To reset the timing on the engine move each gear just a little at a time swtiching between them each time. If you start to feel any binding that feels like you're hitting a piston, you probably are. it's normal to feel some tesion from the springs, bout you can still turn the gear with a little effort. it's tricky to describe the difference, but once you feel the spring pressure, you'll know what the feel of a valve on a piston feels like. if this happens, just move the crank a little bit and then go back to the cams. take your time and you'll be able to get the motor re-timed.

Toyota timing belt


I just did mine last month. same year & eng. you should have a Chilton repair manual, but... The cams R marked. the marks go straight up on each. the crank has to be on TDC on compression stroke. put #1 piston up (front pass side) & feel for air pressure coming out with your finger to assure its on compression stroke. as you apply the belt, w/ the tentioner off, the cam marks will move out a hair & no longer be ligned up with the marks on the timimg cover backing plate. they will each be off about 1/8 away from the marks on the backing plate. some belts are marked with white lines that line up w/ marks on the pulleys. 610-905-4257 Barry

Belt squeaking have tried tiehtening


are you sure its the belt. i had a similar problem with my dodge caravan, i thought it was the belt but it ended up being one of the pullys was squeeking, and also the pully on the belt tensioner.

You have to remove the engine covor. Then you have to remove the lifters off the camshaft. You then have to remove the Timing belt. The top gear on the timing belt has to be removed as well. then you pull the Seal out of the Camshaft. Then the Camshaft should come out. You put your new Camshaft in, then put the new seal on the camshaft. Then you put the gear back on. There is a hash mark inside of the gear, that needs to be top center. You then need to take the first spark plug out and put a screw driver in there. you then need to turn the bottom gear (where the timing belt goes) clockwise until you can feel the first cylinder come all the way up(you feel this with the screw driver). then you put the Timing Belt back on without moving any of the gears at all. The lifters have to be torqued on. They just cannot be put back on. There is a torque specification for those lifters, every vehicle is different. When you get those lifters back on, you put the lid to the engine back on. Then you are done. I hope this was helpful.

2001 SATURN SL1 BELT


You'll need a 14mm socket wrench.

Locate the belt tensioner pulley. It's the one closest to the alternator and the only one that comes in contact with the back surface of the belt.

Fit the socket on to the bolt on the pulley.
Try to turn it clockwise.
This should swing the pulley down and loosen the belt,
Slide the belt off one of the other pulleys.
When it's clear, release the tensioner, remove the belt.

Same deal in reverse to replace the belt.
