Most freeze plugs are designed to be a safety in case the coolant freezes to save the block from cracking. Have you experienced any fluid leaks? If so, yes, it could be very detrimental for your engine.

If your Freeze plug pops out the coolant will leak out. The car will overheat and eventually (with in minites) run bad and then it will not run at all. The question is what caused the freeze plug to pop. If the coolant froze inside the engine you may have bigger issues than the freeze plug, There is a strong possibility that you have a crack in the block or heads or in the head gasket. This would affect the engine performance.

Freeze plug above motor mount on a 4.3 g20 van

need to unbolt both motor mounts taking the big center bolt out on both sides..raise the engine with a floor jack enough to acess the faulty freezeplug with a tool from hit the tool with a hammer and push it into the block, then once loosened, remove with a pair of channel lock pliers then replace the new freezeplug carefully..these are a one time install piece so be careful to put it in straight..lower the engine back onto the mounts reinstall the bolts and fill and check everything..

Freeze plup location

Back of engine, eh? The freeze plugs (3, maybe 4 on that back side) will be on the engine block, below the cylinder head, and below where the exhaust manifold mounts up. Look in back of the exhaust manifold for the plugs. Check for indication of leaking, it should be evident. If you have an engine block heater installed in one of the freeze plug holes, that may have loosened and started leaking. If you find a plug that needs replaced, put a stout screwdriver or punch on the freezeplug, not at the center of plug but to the edge, and whack it good. That edge will go in and the other side will stick out- grab with pliers and remove. Clean the area well to remove rust and scale where freezeplug seals in the block. It will be hard, possibly, to put in a new freeze plug with everything in the way. So buy a rubber expansion plug at the parts store-easy to install, just put a wrench on it to tighten. Take your old freezeplug with you to get the right sized expansion plug.
Good luck, hope you find it.

My 97 tahoe the rpm's start going funny engine startes running like its missing popping and ******* and die's it has new fuel pump ,sending unit ,rotor, censor ,fuel relay everytime i c

I'm assuming you replaced the fuel filter when you did the pump.
You'll have to try to figure out if you are loosing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed.
Its possible something is failing inside the distributor among other things.
I'm also assuming you have checked the computer for trouble codes.

Sounds like the timing belts needs to be replaced and it is a real pain on those cars best to do the water pump also. I suggest a really good mechanic do the work though. It took me about 8 labor hours to do this.
