Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

Hi guys, I have a 98 chev silverado 5.7 vortec. I've been struggling with misfire on wet days. The cap and wires were replaced twice to no avail. The engine light has been on for a while : latest code is crank/cam sensor. I also have water on my passenger side floormat after rain/wash. Wondering after reading some posts if something in the firewall is getting wet behind the dash. O2 sensors are fine, mass air flow is fine air filter housing is tight. New cat installed. Would crank sensor be a problem? or would the truck even run without it. Any help would be useful. Thanks from Ontario.

The crank and cam sensors would be a huge problem - the car wouldn't work if the sensors were at absolute nonfucntion, but you'd have issues if the sensor's issues were intermittent.

99 Astro Van random misfires P300

Before you replace the injectors have them do an injector balance test. Normally wet weather does not effect fuel system. Sounds more like you have a crank or cam sensor acting up.

My jeep 98 sahara started misfiring after some wet days here in San Diego! It sounds like the crank sensor, but I am not sure! I let go of the gas and it comes back alive!

moisture related issues, generaly require servcie or replacement of ignition related parts, coil, cap, igntion wires should be inspected for moisture saturation. simply wet ignition system and look for spark limited lighting helps

I had a mechanic check my car and he said it might be the #5 injector that was missing (1998 chevy blazer)

The 98 chevy blazer has a one spider injector that runs to six poppit valves where the fuel is injected into the cylinders. It is possible that the poppit valve may become plugged. Before looking into this more I would verify that the spark plug or wire is not the cause of your cylinder #5 misfire.

I own a 96 chevy k1500 5.7 l vortec and have a no 5 cyl misfire

It could be a faulty fuel injector, try running a fuel injector cleaner through your fuel system. At worst the poppet nozzle has gone bad and will need to be replaced, you can buy the poppet nozzle it self individually at Auto Zone or buy upgrade MFI system which is much better and less pron to fuel leaking room a cracked poppet line or nozzle which will cause what you have described.

Only when it rains, I get an engine misfire and the check

our van did this also. only when it rains. we did 2 things to cure it. 1 expensive but huge difference. use GM oem cap, rotor, ignition module. 2 make sure your windsheild seal is watertight. we were getting water into our firewall junction under the dash board.
