stumble on acceleration could be stopped up fuel filter, clogged fuel injectors, intake manifold leak or plenum leak or leak at air duct to throttle body

  • petergrigori Apr 06, 2011

    hi,whats plenum?
throttle body has been checked no leaks.
ecu reading was done no codes or engine light comes up.
to explain better,it runs flat around 10000rpm when you acelerate sudenly then as you acelerate it goes okay, theres like half second delay as you acelerate, and you can hear like air hissing but cant find any vacuum leaks.feels like its running lean.
ive aded 98 octane premium fuel and fuel system cleaner it has improved about 30%but still has the problem.basically wont take off smoothly.what you think?.thx peter

if you hear hiss noise you have a intake leak.check around air duct to air filter housing.replace air filter and fuel filter.the plenum is a aluminum cover on top of intake covering fuel injectors.

  • petergrigori Apr 07, 2011

hi,air filter has been done.intake manifold and injectorsare hard to get to,if i spray carbi cleaner on them you think i can tell any leaks or you know some other trick?thx

  • Jonah Oneal Apr 07, 2011

you can use a long small vacuum hose stick one end in you ear other end around intake plenum and intake air duct to air filter housing,if you have vacuum leak you will hear hissing noise thats a vacuum leak. some mechanic use carb cleaner and wd 40 but they are very flammable. thats why i use a vacuum hose to listen around intake area for vacuum leak.becareful and caution not to get hands, hose sleeves and hair caught in the engine drive belt and fan.

change fuel filter and clean fuel injectors.sound like engine not getting enough fuel on start up.thats why it shuts off and you can restart it.

Hi i got a toyota tarago 96 model that wont start my wife was driving and she heard a bang then the car stopped in the middle of the street so i changed filters n spark plugs n pumps still no start

There are videos on you tube for diagnosing vehicle no start problems ! Rather then just replacing parts . Testing for spark and fuel pressure and engine compression . Timing chain problems etc... My advice to you would be take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop . Save yourself some money . You spent how much already ? i changed filters n spark plugs n pumps still no start !!!!!!!

Loss of power when you first acelerate

Not sure what itnighters are, sorry.

You seem to be describing a flat spot - a hesitation during initial acceleration that is commonly caused by either insufficient spark power or the fuel system being slow to adjust to the new requirements.

A backfire is an explosion in the exhaust system and I wonder if you really meant a spit-back (through the intake), which is common with a fuelling caused flat spot?

Replacing the spark plugs is merely half the job and testing the spark power is the other half...

I suggest you check the fuel pressures and pressure regulator function and the injector spray patterns. Only if all tests good it could be worth testing the oxygen sensor...

Vvti toyota celica 190 poor emmisions

Air fuel mixture may be it. Also it could be a bad catalytic converter. Also the timing may be the culprit.

2005 Toyota Corolla - car smells after rains

Look under the passenger side of the dash, behind the carpet. Feel the back side of the carpet for dampness. If so, try this: In the same area, look for a black rubber hose that comes from the heater plastic box, and pokes thru the firewall. See if it is plugged up. This is the drain pipe for the AC box, and the cowl panel if the side drains are plugged up. Try that, and please get back to me.

Plug replacement on a 2005 Toyota Echo 4 cyl engine

Hey alanacheson,
The spark plugs are underneath that cover on top of the engine (should say VVTi on the cover).
Just take that cover off, and then you will see the four ignition coils. Take off the four ignition coils (with igniters), and you will see the four relatively long holes underneath, and the spark plugs are at the bottom of those holes. You will need a good spark plug socket (preferably a thin wall socket) and a 6" or 12" extension. This is actually a very easy job, and can be completed in less than an hour.
Hope this helps.
