Question about 1996 Audi A6

1 Answer

Engine won't start. Doesn't seem to be a battery problem. Plenty of juice. Coincidentally (perhaps) the car was inspected this morning. After an hour's drive to work after passing inspection (no issues - ran well), it was parked in the parking lot all day. Wouldn't start back up at end of day. 78,000 miles but in great shape with no prior problems.

I had the same thing with my 96 Audi A6 - what fixed it for me was placing a new ground strap between the engine block and the body. It appears the ends of the old cable were corroded.

A battery can show 12 volts yet still be dead (not pushing any amps). Many battery places or auto parts store will do a free test.

Seems like the temp sensor is grounded after the heat up, Unhook the battery positive terminal for 3 minutes, make sure the coolant is full in the radiator, hook the positive terminal on the battery and start the vehicle, IF it does not start scan for codes and let me know, what codes you find?

My suspicion is a starter going bad. Sometimes when starters get old and worn they will start good when the engine is cold but not when the engine is warmed up. Did you perhaps notice that lately is seemed to drag when you tried starting, especially warm or it seemed to crank a little slower? I'd replace the starter. Hope this helps.

Since last November, I noticed sluggish cranking on start. Sometimes the engine refuses to start much like a dead battery but the battery tests strong. I thought perhaps the new Interstate battery may...

Check the connections on the starter, and on the battery cables from the Honda. I know it sounds funny but I had the same problem with my BMW. It turned out there was corrosion on the the cables and it wasn't getting all the juice. Corrosion and or loose connections to the starter could be your problem...Hope this helps.

#1 lights inside car mean squat they are very low draw how about radio heater headlights...and trying your ignition...I suggest you clean your battery teminal after fully charging your battery and make sure the terminals are nice and tight and then try starting your car w/out turning anything else on if it starts you have solved it if you drive it and it dies then you are just using juice in battery have alternator and battery lode tested at a reputable garage most will do for free on hopes of selling you what you need if they are ok then cherck your starter good luck

Go back to your battery connections and make sure they are clean. If you recently replaced terminal ends, pull on the wires and see if it cranks.

starter wont click because there's not enough "juice" to turn it over. this isnt because of the battery as you have just replaced it. it is due to a bad alternator recharging the battery as you drive. if it were only a fuse it would be the solenoid in the starter. but if it had started after you installed the battery then its not the solenoid. solution: buy a refurbished alternator and

Things seem to short out when brakes are applied es300 1993

It sounds like you may have a bad alternator, when your jumpers are hooked up, it has proper juice to run the accessories, but when you disconnect the jumpers the car is running on what little juice the battery has. The engine moving around, yes it very well may be the mounts, but that would not cause it to die like it is. When you step on your brake petal, it iluminates the brake lights, taking more juice from the battery. If you remove the alternator and bring it to any advance auto or autozone, they can test it for you for free, to tell if it needs replacing or not. Also check the fusable link located in the fuse compartment under the hood, and make sure that's good.
Hope this helps!
