No, wouldn't have thought so. When you bought the car you should have been given a little booklet for the stereo. And in it there should be a code (1234 eg) which can be typed in with the station buttons on the front of the stereo.

Radio gets no power, fuses and wires are good

Check your connections again. Check that they're connected correctly. Look at a diagram, check the fuse on the power (red) wire from the radio. The radio might have fuses on the back of it, check them too. If anything put and tape every thing back together and use a harness then go from there.

Cleaned battery cables and radio is safe mode. purchased the car used dont know the code.

By now you probably solved this problem but here it goes. Once power is disrupted to the radio the radio goes into safety mode. At this point only the dealer can give you the code to restart the radio. The radio must be removed to gain access to the series of numbers on the tag. The dealer can input these numbers into the computer to retrieve your code. Once you have the code you can write it down and keep a copy (in multiple places) and also put it on a piece of tape and put it under the cover of the armrest or anywhere else that it is not visible. Any time power id interupted to the radio this will happen, even if the fuse is removed by accident. If you are taking the car for repairs always have that number if you llike your radio.
