This is usually an indication of refrigerant level in the AC system. It should be checked before the compressor clutch is damaged. Forcing it to stay on will cause extensive damage. Good Luck and thanks for using Fix-ya to get answers.

The a/c clutch is suppose to rotate on and off under normal operation.
1. when the cabin temperature meets the thermostat setting the clutch goes off and comes back on then the air temperature goes up.
2. if your system is low in refrigerant gas your system will cycle on and off rapidly or not come on at all.
3. so what makes it cycle on and off: 1.- Cabin thermostat; 2.- low pressure switch in the engine compartment near or on the acumulator tank of the A/C unit.
your A/C unit has two ports on it a low pressure port on the suction side ( the fatter pipe) and the high pressure side ( the smaller diameter pipe).
you will need a gauge set to properly test for low refrigerant.
good luck

For install of hydrolic clutch master cylinder, how do I bleed the line?

The slave cylinder on the transmission flywheel housing has a bleed screw. Fill the clutch reservoir on the master cylinder to 'max'. Have a friend depress the clutch pedal and keep it pressed. Open the bleed screw half a turn to release the air and then lightly re-tighten the bleed screw . Ask for the pedal to be released then depressed fully again and held there. Again release the bleed screw half a turn to release air bubbles. Keep repeating the above cycles until no more air is forthcoming and then tighten the bleed screw firmly. Your done

The clutch pedal on Suzuki vitara two litre V6 1998 goes to about inch of floor before activation. Clutch does not slip just too much pedal travel. Is it possible to adjust it? ...

prev.gif next.gif Clutch ADJUSTMENTS 1997-98 Models CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT The clutch pedal height should not be a periodic adjustment but may be checked after components of the mechanical clutch system have been replaced. The proper clutch pedal height should be 0.2 in. (5mm) above the brake pedal height If adjustment is necessary, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting bolt until the appropriate height is reached. Once set, keep the bolt from turning and tighten the locknut to secure the adjustment. CLUTCH PEDAL FREE-PLAY The clutch pedal free-play should be checked from time-to-time in order to assure proper clutch operation. The proper clutch free-play should be 0.6-1.1 in. (15-25mm). Fig. 1: Pedal free-play is adjusted at the joint nut (2), while keeping the outer cable nuts (3) tightened around the center cable thread portion 7924hg30.gif
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. If the free-play must be adjusted, turn the joint nut (2) located at the transmission end of the clutch cable in or out, as necessary to achieve the proper play.
  3. Once the correct pedal free-play is obtained, check the free-play on the release arm (c), it should be 0.02-0.06 in. (0.5-1.5mm).
1999-01 Models These vehicles are equipped with a hydraulic clutch system. No adjustment is necessary.

Replacing water pump, how doers the fan come off the pump shaft. It looks like it's screwed on with a large hex nut but how can I loosen it without the shaft turning. Frustrated

The fan clutch is threaded onto the water pump. They make a tool to hold the pulley from turning so you can turn the large hex part of the clutch. You can probably rent one for free from a parts store like autozone or the like. Keep in mind some clutches are left hand threads also keeping the belt on the pulley also helps the pulley from spinning also.

My a/c will not turn off even when car is off

It sounds like your relay to the A/C has gone bad and is stuck in the close loop, causing the A/C to keep running. Replace the relay and check the wire harness to ensure there is no wires melted causing the close loop. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have.
