How to replace the power steering belt on a 4g13

ADJUSTMENT

Excessive belt tension will cause damage to the alternator and water pump pulley bearings, while, on the other hand, loose belt tension will produce slip and premature wear on the belt. Therefore, be sure to adjust the belt tension to the proper level.
To adjust the tension on a drive belt, loosen the adjusting bolt or fixing bolt locknut on the alternator, alternator bracket or tension pulley. Then move the alternator or turn the adjusting bolt to adjust belt tension. Once the desired value is reached, secure the bolt or locknut and recheck tension.

How do i change alternator belt on 1992 subaru svx

Remove the plastic cover held on by two 10mm hexbolts. Slide cover forward (dont try to lift up).

Below the Power Steering pump is a pulley. This is the belt tensioner. With a 12mm box-end wrench, loosen pulley bolt.

There is a 12mm bolt that extends from the pulley at a right angle. Turn this bolt counter-clockwise to loosen, and clockwise to tighten. Make sure you loosen the belt enough to easily slip it off the alternator pulley. Put on new belt and reverse disassembly process.

I need to replace the belt tensioner on a 2000 Chysler Caravan with a 3.0L engine, with a/c. I would appreciation a diagram for properly installing the serpentine belt, and some instructions on how to...

Hi, I have pasted the procedure for belt replacement below. To replace the tensioner as well, first take the belt off. Then remove the pulley from the tensioner. This will expose the single bolt that holds the tensioner on. Replace the tensioner and then the pulley (if replacing all). Then reinstall the belt.

Alternator/Power Steering Pump Belt
The alternator/power steering pump belt is provided with a dynamic tensioner to maintain proper belt tension.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle and safely support it with jackstands.
  3. Remove the right front splash shield.
  4. Release tension by rotating the tensioner clockwise (use a box-end wrench on the tensioner bolt shown in the picture.
  5. Remove the belt and install a replacement.
  6. Proper belt tension is maintain by the dynamic tension.
  7. Install the right front splash shield. Lower the front of the vehicle.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Remove air filter to give you more room to play
  2. Loosen alternator and alternator tensioner. Alternator tensioner bolts to water pump so that bolt will need to come out.
  3. With the alternator loose, the main drive belt should be loose and be able to be removed, do this.
  4. Loosen the tensioner bolt for the air conditioner, on the underside of the engine. Losen the nut on the air conditioner tension wheel. The tensioner wheel should now slide up and down freely, allowing removal of the air conditioner belt.
  5. Remove the 4 x 10mm bolts on the water pump pulley. Remove the water pump pulley.
  6. Remove the 4 x 10mm bolts on the camshaft pulley. This is the main pulley that all the belts connect to. There is a large 17mm bolt in the middle of this pulley that does not need to be removed. (Crankshaft Bolt).
  7. The camshaft pulley should slide off, however you will probably have no clearance (because of the crankshaft bolt) to remove the pulley. The pulley has to be removed.
  8. Place a jack under the sump, use a piece of wood to protect the sump. Jack the sump up 1/2 inch. Undo the two 14mm bolts in the engine mounts. When the two left hand engine mount bolts are out, lower the jack slowly until you can slide the camshaft pulley out.
  9. Remove the plastic timing belt cover.
  10. You should now see the timing belt, remove the timing belt tensioner pulley, being careful not to move the timing belt wheels.
  11. Undo the bolts holding the water pump.
  12. Water pump should come off, water will come out if you haven't drained it.
  13. Scrape off gasket.
  14. Install new water pump.
  15. Reassemble in reverse order.

1996 Cherokee serpentine belt no moving.

Sounds like you have something locked up.

Take a picture/draw a diagram of serpetine belt routing.

Remove the belt, then try turning each individual item the belt powers to see which one is locked up.

I'd start with the AC Compressor first, then alternator, the belt tensioner, power steering pump, and whatever else is powered by the belt.

Pulley unbolts from the front of the pump. Remove belt after you loosen the pump bolts. you can lean on the belt to keep the pulley from turning as you break the bolts loose.
