To rebuild your old one is around $800 this is replacing bands and clutches.Might get one for around $300 at salvage **** may cost another 300 to install with no warrenty. Best of luck to you.
Also make sure you get a sec quote on price, may get little cheeper,

How do you check the transmission fluid level in a 2001 Nissan Altima manual transmission

Hmmm... actually nobody can detect the level of the lubricant inside the transmission. The only way we do is unscrew the drain plug slowly( not opening it all the way ) and if some lubricant flows out that means u have gear oil!
At the age of ur car, u really have to drain the old one and refill it w/ new lubricants( additives for gears will help too! ).

Hope that helps u out!

2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 transmission

The 2.5 and the 3.5 transmissions are the same except for the side cover where the output gears are. The 3.5 uses thicker gears. They were made in Decherd Tn. Also the bell housing is different. The starter for the 3.5 is mounted in the bell housing and the starter for the 2.5 is mounted to the block.
