The fuel pump is actually located in the fuel tank. It's a high volume pump and is controlled by the vehicles computer system. In some cases you can hear the pump run when you first turn the key on (assuming it's working). It will only run for approx. 3 seconds after the key is turned to the on position and will continue when the engine is cranked.

At times fuel pump starts up & puts out 10 pounds pressure (fuel) and turn key on again later then builds up more fuel pressure .then the vehicle starts 2001 lincoln continental

your pump should supply 6- 10 lbs of pressure,, If you have to turn the key again to build it up more, you have a bad pump, its not holding a constant pressure, which will make for hard starts , and even if bad enough stalling of the vehicle

Fuel pump relay or fuse

In most cars it is located at the fuse box or relay fusebox inside the engine compartment or near the fuel pump itself. It could aslo be the fuel pressure regulator if the fuel pump is good.
