Can you describe some of the sounds. When do they happen: When shifting, all the time, only in certain gears, has there been any work done to it lately?

Ok thank you for your answers. By what you are saying you have syncronizers that need to be replaced. They sound like bad bearings because theyare kind of like a bearing. They make sure that the gears are syncronized when you go to shift. If the noise wasnt there before the short shifter may have cause the excessive wear. If the noise was already there it might get worse because sometimes the short shift wont let the syncronizers to their job correctly. The tranny may go another 15,000 miles before it stops working or it may gor 3,000. Over time the gears will get harder to shift and eventually you wont be able to get it in certain gears. I suggest you have it taken to a shop. Or you can let it go till the tranny dies then replace it.

I am confident that the syncronizers are the problem, if you want to ask me more questions see if you can wait till tomorrow because it is 9:30pm here and i am going to go to bed. If you post a comment and i dont get back to you in less than 4 hours the question will close.

You can also mark the solution as helpfull, rate it then ask questions through the old thread.

Thank you and have agreat night!

If the noise isnt so bad or noticable it should be fine for a long while.

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a rattling noise coming from the gearbox, almost sounds like a worn release bearing on a manual box. The noise only appears after 1-2 min after cold start. Gearbox further...

If you notice a change in the rattle, when you depress the clutch pedal it is most likely in the clutch,or the linkage. The release bearing will most often have a squeal or a hissing sound. The clutch fork can rattle, if the ball pivot retainer is broken. You may feel some unwanted slack in the clutch opperation, and you may be able to adjust this out,but maybe not, with a hydraulic clutch.

Wheel bearings making funny noise

prop the wheel off the ground that has the noisey bearing involved. Turn the wheel by hand spinning it as fast as you can. You will hear different noises as it spins if bad. it could sound very smooth and when it hits a certain location the noise will come and go. If the sound is like scrapping metal instead check the inner brake caliper sheild. That could be bent instead causing this sound
