Question about 2004 Mazda RX-8

2 Answers

I have a 2009 RX8 R3 w/20,000 miles on it. Just started it to go get gas and out of no where the power steering stopped working. Yellow steering wheel light w/! Is on. WTF? I know how to drive without power steering but what if this happens during a spirited drive. Tried reseting it by unplugging battery. Had to reset my traction control but still no power steering.

One of two things have happened:

  1. Your power steering pump went out and needs to be replaced or,
  2. The drive belt that controls the PS pump broke
The RX8 has only two drive belts so if they are both fine and none are broken then it meant that the PS pump itself has went out and needs to be replaced.

Let me know what you think and dont forget to rate the solution.

Thank you and have a great day!

You have to take the car to an expert Mazda RX-8 mechanics. The power steering is electric. There is no hydraulics fluids in the system.
The lights come on for different problems. First it could be a problem with the electric power steering gear power. Second a problem with the power steering module or a problem with the harness. The gear power and the module are very expensive. Take care.

Pontiac 2009. Would the eps fuse missing stop the car from starting

The EPS fuse is for the electric power steering. The EPS fuse is usually a 60 amp fuse. It may be a safety kill switch associated with not having a fuse in place. It is not usually safe to drive a car without the steering working properly. GM has had a huge recall on the EPS system, including some 2009 models.

Power steering fails when car is not getting gas.

power steering only works when motor is running. If car is running and you are having this problem it could be as simple as low power steering fluid...have it check...good luck and hope this helps some.

Steering on masda rx8 very stiff when first driveing then after a couple of miles is ok

the 1st thing to try is flushing the power steering with clean fluid, this may correct the problem, the next step is to see if the power steering pump is defective or the steering rack, this takes special testing and skills, any shop can flush the fluid or u can do it with a suction gun, then add lucas brand power steering sealer and conditioner, this works well if u have a internal fluid pressure leak in the Rack.

CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE THE PS CONNECTOR IS FOR MY STEERING ON MY RX8

Hey guys heres the deal. I bout a working power steering rack for my rx-8 after mine stopped working. And after I read some power steering issue threads I cleaned some connectors and viola! my ps works again so I have this ps rack sitting in my garage. Paid $600 for it.

Save time and money:
Just clean all the connectors right under the airbox which I took out with some connector cleaner i got from the local autoparts store and it worked.

How do I fix the power steering n my mazda rx8 04?

My RX8 had the same problem. First, change your battery cable ends. On the Positive cable there is a white wire that powers the power steering. It probably has a bad connection at the battery post. I cut the end off my rx8 and just put a regular battery cable end on it and my problem was solved.

Battery draining

We have an HHR SS 2009, it is on its 3rd battery. Just had it hauled in again today. Batteries they are using are made in China Delco is telling me, as long as it is in warranty I will have them keep hauling it. The first time they put a battery in it sat for 6 days and was dead when we went to start it, this time only 3 days. I am not pleased with my purchase at thsi point.
