Question about 2000 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cabs

Okay, my boyfriend owns a 2000 ford f-250 super duty and your prolly wondering as to why im asking about this instead of him ... well im more mechanically inclined then he is lol funny huh... okay heres the symptoms... turbo kicks in and out when it wants, more so when you've been driving a steady 70mph for about 30-45min , transmission acts up in 2nd gear, so at take off you have to drop it into 2nd then when at 30mph throw it into drive for you to.... well move at a decent speed lol..next off, the brake lights dont wrk, passenger side window has a mind of its own, you cant start the truck with the key, you have to start it with the solenoid using a screwdriver... yea not cool when its raining..., its an automatic so the shift column ( i think thats what its called) is slightly loose, so kinda tricky to find the right gear sometimes, and the steering column has slack in it..... give me a rough guesstimation as to what might be the problem.. im leaning more to mostly electrical.. like in the steering column due to the fact its loose and fords are notorious for that or possibly a bad wiring harness....

It sounds like the shift tube bushings are worn out. There are usually 2 u shaped clamps that have nylon bushings that hold the shift tube to the steering clumn. If loose, that throws off the shift position, could be btween 2 gears at once, and throws off the park - neutral safety switch. Fix that first.

    The transmission shift cable transfers the transmission operating mode from the gearshift lever to the automatic transmission. The indicated position of the transmission control selector lever is transferred to the transmission through the steering column shift selector tube, then to the cable, and down to the manual control lever on the transmission.



    Cable and Bracket Adjustment -5.4L, 6.8L, 7.3L Diesel With 4R100 Transmission




    1. Place the gearshift lever in the (D) position.

      • Place an eight pound weight on the gearshift lever.


    1. Raise and support the vehicle; refer to Section 100-02 .


    1. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the manual lever.


    1. Unlock the lock tab on the transmission shift cable.


    1. Place the manual control lever in the (D) position.

      1. Place the manual control lever in the first gear position.


      1. Move the manual control lever two detents to the (D) position.


    1. Connect the transmission shift cable to the manual control lever.


    1. Lock the transmission shift cable lock tab.


    1. Lower the vehicle.


    1. Remove the eight pound weight.


    1. Carefully move the gearshift lever from detent to detent and compare with transmission settings. Verify that the vehicle will start in PARK or NEUTRAL and backup lamps illuminate in REVERSE. If not, Steps 1-5 must be repeated and include digital TR or TR sensor adjustment in NEUTRAL. Readjust if necessary.

    Alignment Gauge, TR Sensor

    Removal

    NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with a power take-off unit, all or part of the PTO unit may need to be removed.



    1. NOTE: All gasoline vehicles will have new adaptive shift strategies. Whenever the vehicle's battery has been disconnected for any type of service or repair, the strategy parameters that are stored in the keep alive memory (KAM) will be lost. The strategy will start to relearn once the battery is reconnected and the vehicle is driven. This is a temporary condition and will return to normal operating condition once the powertrain control module (PCM) relearns all the parameters from the driving conditions. There is no set time frame for this process. If a concern is present during downshifts or converter clutch apply, it is not the fault of the shift strategy and will require diagnosis as outlined in the workshop manual.

      The customer needs to be notified that they may experience slightly different upshifts (either soft or firm) and that this is a temporary condition and will eventually return to normal operating condition.
      Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .


    1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 .


    1. Disconnect the connector.


    1. Disconnect the shift cable at the manual control lever.


    1. Remove the digital transmission range (TR) sensor.

      1. Remove the bolts.


      1. Remove the digital transmission range (TR) sensor.

    Installation


    1. Install the digital transmission range (TR) sensor.

      1. Install digital transmission range (TR) sensor.


      1. Loosely install the bolts.



    1. NOTE: Make sure that the manual control lever is in the neutral position.
      Using the special tool, align the digital TR sensor. The tool is designed to fit snug.


    1. Tighten the bolts.


    1. Reconnect the shift cable at the manual control lever.


    1. Reconnect the connector.


    1. Lower the vehicle.


    1. Reconnect the battery ground cable.

I have a 2000 F250 superduty 7.3 Diesel. I had the same issue with the horn blowing and then stopping if you opened the door. I was told that Ford trucks had a issue with the windshield not being sealed and the water would run in and end up on the GEM module shorting it out. They told me to get the windshield resealed and let the gem module dry out. Just depending how much water got in the module you many have to change the complete unit. The GEM module is located on the back of the fuse panel so if you have to change it you must remove the fuse panel and the two wire harnesses at the bottom to get it out. This unit controls shifting, security system, lights, Horn etc

Run the VIN# at the dealers parts counter,don't have to buy there
Ask at auto parts store
Take in old alt ,to match up

Stuck hood on 2000 ford 250, latch release won't work


Ok, open the door, stand next to the door, pull the hood release while slapping your hand on the hood or have someone else lift the front edge while you pull on the latch..... should get in...
