Have the break fluid inspected. It may need replacing. While at it you may want to have the brake master (the one attached to the firewall in the engine bay) and the brake cables. Have the brake system bled to ensure air and dirt is removed.

Brake peddle is low,

Pedal, not peddle. First make sure reservoir is full at the brake master cylinder. Then check your brake pads (for disc brakes) and/or brake shoes (for drum brakes). When the pads or shoes are very worn down, you will get a low pedal. If you have disc brakes on the front and drums on the rear wheels, first try just replacing the front brake pads. If you get a good pedal after the front is done, many people tend to let the rear brake shoes go unless they are making noise. These systems are designed to put most of the braking force on the front discs, so the rear shoes do not need changing as often.

Do the back brakes have a drum pad as well as brake pads

depends on the system you have, Most newer cars have disc brakes on the front, and the rear brakes vary , some have drum brakes and some disc on the rear as well as the front , both versions use a PAD, drum brakes usually refer to them as brake shoes, and disc's refer to them as disc pads

Need to replace brakes on 2000 GMC Safari. does it have disc brakes all around or drum rakse in rear?

Disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. Make sure that you repack the front bearing's with wheel grease before finishing the job.If the front rotors and or the rear drums have a rough brake pad surface, get them resurfaced before installing new brake pads or brake shoes in the rear. you can go online or your public library for complete instructions on how to replace the brakes on that vehicle.

What kind of brakes are on this car (front and rear)?

It depends on model. Most cars have disc brakes in front and drum brakes in rear. Some cars have disc brakes front and rear. Look through the front wheels, you will see the front disc, now look at the rear, if it looks like the fronts, you have 4 wheel disc brakes, if you cant see anything behind the wheel, it has rear drum brakes.

Discs or drum brakes on a Dodge Caravan

It will be disc on the front for sure, but the rear can be either,,look threw the wheel at the front, and look threw the wheel on the rear,if you can see the brake pads, and caliper,,it will look like the front, then it is disc,if there is just a drum,it will just look like nothing,a rust color metal, that is all,if it is drum brakes on the rear.

Replace the rear brake drum system with disc brake system

Rear discs and callipers are much smaller. You are going to need the right stuff to do this or you will have too much effort to rear and they will lock up.

Your 89 Corolla has drum brakes at the rear.
The graciousness of a FIxYa rating would be greatly appreciated.
