Question about Toyota RAV4

Per Auto Zone, the EGR value needs to be replaced (check engine light is on). Where is the value located and should I try to remove it and clean it? Is there any other items suspect for replacement with the fault code for the EGR valve? Thanks, mark

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry that had not been driven in several months. When I finally try to start it to have it inspected the battery was DEAD. Replaced battery. Took car for state inspection and it failed. Person at inspection place asked if I had had battery replaced and how much I have driven car. Told them just replaced battery and drove car to them. They told me to drive the car for about 60 miles so it can "reset itself".

When I left and drove car, check engine light came on! Took to Auto Zone and test results came back with a Code P0401. Auto Zone cleared the Check Engine Light. Five miles later it was back on!

This car has over 150,000 miles on it. It runs great!

How expensive is it to change the EGR value? I do not drive this car much at all; it sits outside. I have 15 days (8 now) to get whatever is wrong repaired. Help!

The EGR valve is located on the intake manifold, it has a single vacuum line going to it, are you sure it is the valve and not the vacuum control valve that opens and closes the EGR? You provided no year or trouble code, so hope this answer is correct.

Where is the egr valve on the V-6 Engine?

Not easy to see, but on drivers side of engine underneath intake manifold, so look for airflow intake tube, the larger air tube, and it is just below and to the firewall about middle of engine top to bottom. Hose comes out of it and two bolts hold it in, pretty easy to see once you know where it is located, but difficult to change. Sometimes just cleaning hose out will solve problem. Worth a try to buy EGR cleaner and spray and run a wire inside hose to loosen up carbon.

Check engine light is on took it to auto zone they said it was my egr valve and i replaced it and check engine light still on........ is it any other sensor that, the egr could have trigger

The check engine light will not go out on its own until usually after 20 or so starts. You need to back to Auto zone and have them hook up the analyzer again and clear the codes (they will do this for free). If the problem was your EGR valve, the light will then go out.

My Check Engine light was on and I took it and had Auto Zone test it.The problem was my EGR.I was wondering where is it located and is this a common problem.

Look on Auto Zone's website for a picture of the EGR valve....usually located near the top rear of the engine. You can try cleaning the EGR with some carburetor cleaner as they usually get pretty fouled up with carbon deposits, just remember to replace the gasket when after you remove it. If cleaning the EGR does not help, you may need to replace it.

Motor idels radically -trans. won't shift properly

If your service engine and ABS light are on, take the vehicle to your local Auto Zone and have the codes read. They will do that for you at no charge. Write the codes down and reply back, we can go from there.
Per your description, it sounds like an EGR valve issue, but get the codes checked and let me know.

# 4 cyclinder

Number 4 cylinder is the 2nd cylinder back on the driver side. Check to see if your EGR valve is clogged with carbon. If it is, clean it out and I like to remove the EGR tube from the exhaust to valve and clean it out as well. The EGR tube is a metal tube. Remove the spark plug and see if it's been firing. How long has it been since it's had a set of plugs and wires?
