Question about 1983 Chevrolet Silverado

1996 454 EFI in 1983 Silverado

I have a 1996 454 that I am rebuilding, complete with fuel injection manifold etc., .030 overbore Chev HP roller cam (500 crate engine type). I would like to put it in my 1983 silverado and use the fuel injection as per 1996 spects. I have found a Painless wiring kit for big bucks that I can use to run the engine, or a Mega Squirt system that requires you to build a kit. Would like to get a set of complete set of connectors etc and wire them to a used computer to fit my budget. Any idea's where all the parts can be found. I am sure Chevrolet has all the pieces but they want 1300 for an assembled wiring harness, and they can't seem to figure which one to use. Like to use something that has been tried before or talk to someone who has done the same. Contact me at ***@madisoncounty.net (Use subject SILVERADO to get through the junk mail filter) if you have any answers.

There are GM only wrecking yards all over the place, they will sell the wiring harness, any wrecking yard can run a locate over the whole national network, but they will charge more if they have to get it from another yard. I have gotten many used harnesses over the years for burn jobs, never had a problem getting a used harness, about $200-$300 I would venture to guess.

Summit offers several wiring kits ... here is the link .....
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?Ntt=painless+wiring+kit&N=700+4294908216+115+4294840133&Ntk=KeywordSearch

I'd go with what emissionwiz said for the computer, a used one is a lot less than a new one. Also you can call summit and talk with their techs to determine which would be the best app.

Have 2000 chev 2500 7.4L doggy on excel. and lack of power

Check plugs. Timing issue may have fouled them. Any check engine lights on? I know 5.0 and 5.7l have known issues with fuel injection spider going out and causing sluggish performance. Might need to look into that as well. Check fuel pressure. Check and recheck for vacuum leaks/cracked lines.

1988 2.5E s10 no fuel

you mean, cranks ok, but will not start and no fuel , right>?
s10 no fuel. 1988 ( S10 blazer )
please do say , what that means.
1: car cranks and will not start. so must be out of fuel?
(over 50 causes, or better is 10 or less tests (ask)
2: same, and fuel pressure is 0 psi (spec.9-13). gauged.?
3: fuel dribble test?
4: sparks good so tired test fuel and it ran on test fuel ok? proving
loss of fueling>?
5: injector dead cranking, (eyeballs)

which was it?

1988 cars in the USA are BIG TIME TRANSITION year.
we went from CARBS to EFI.
2.5L (what is E)?
gear cam, roller HLA lifters.
your car, USA , is TBI engine,
TBI started on THIS car in 1985 (1/2 and 1/2)
Throttle body injection
an on all TBI engines, one can see it inject with eyes.
does it?
if not it can be the following things.
1: no fuel pressure, 9-13pis.
2: ECU is cutting fuel. Pressure good cranking.
2a: ECU is sending error for bad crank/cam sensors, and cuts fuel.
2b: ECU sees rpm or tacho line dead.
2c. ECU sees TPS sensor output as 4v or more cranking, this cuts all fuel.
3: if ECU is happy, it sends 12vcd to the pump, cranking.
all tests must be dont cranking or chase tail.

1986 Chev transmission problem - transmission is slipping and will not go - have changed fluid and filter

It would be time to replace or rebuild the transmission. Temporary fixes is not going to help this anymore.

Should I keep the carborator or upgrade to a direct fuel injection system in a 1983 thunderbird proformance rebuild

the fuel injection will work better but what about the cost ,also its not original and any hope of selling the car when you get to pensionable age for a good price it will have to be original

My 1990 1500 chev with throttle body injection system has no power to the fuel pump fuse or relay is the circuit completed through the oil pressure switch and if so where is the switch located

On the v-6 engines the oil pressure switch feeds the fuel pump. I'm not sure about your 1500. You didn't say what engine you have, so I will assume it is a v8. The oil pressure switch should be behind the distributor, near the firewall. You can use a paperclip as a jumper in the electrical connector that goes to the oil pressure switch. If it's the switch or low oil pressure, the jumper should complete the circuit and energize the fuel pump.

I have a 95 eagle talon esi and im putting a turbo on it what do i need to overhaul it

First I would make sure to have your block and head checked at a machine shop for clearances, valve check, possible overbore, line hone, etc... Be careful when re-assembling because DSM motors are very very specific on torques. You can also purchase a complete rebuild kit offline, I would recommend over boring if it has high miles. Hope this helps!

I have a 96 explorer and i need to know the difference in engines

No difference, same engine, it's either called an electronic fuel injection (EFI), or a multi fuel injection, usually MPFI ( multi port fuel injection).

Rebuilding injection pump

What you are looking for does not exist outside Stanadyne. The GM service manual refers their own mechanics to send the pumps out for anything other than basic adjustments. Even the Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part no. 10330, gives no info on rebuilding or repairing these. They tell you to send it out as well. You might check out The Diesel Page on the net and you may find someone who has done what you want to do and can talk you through it.Good luck.
