Question about 1997 Mercury Sable

2 Answers

1997 Mercury Sable, I parked my car after some driving and when I came back to started after sitting for about 5 minutes, it started but idled at about 500 rpms a little rough, but would not rev up. Shut it off and tried about a total of 3 times. I had it haul to my mechanic and it sat for over a day and when they went out it started and ran fine and could not detect a problem?

I cannot tell you where it's located but you problem is your rev limiter, This will no allow you to incresses your exceleration. Just for fun drive along and incress your cruse control speed, see what happens. if works and you can go then for sure replace the Revlimitor. best of luck to you.

There is no rev limiter on you car. I would recommend that you wholly disregard the previous comment.

I have had a 93 sable that acted similar. I never managed to track down the real problem, but disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 10 seconds would make it start and run just fine, so I suspected it was an issue with the ECM, or a faulty sensor. It acts like a bad erg valve, and it may be. It wasn't in my case.

Perform a Idle speed control valve cleaning and a throttle valve cleaning, use throttle valve spray cleaner only (available at any auto parts store for about $5). After cleaning disconnect the battery negative cable for 5 minutes to facilitate an idle speed relearn.

2003 mercury sable, AC will blow ice cold until I spend too long sitting in traffic then it starts to blow warm, if I shut AC off and start moving after about 5 minutes I can turn it back on and it gets...

It's gathering frost inside. When you turn it off & drive around for a short while, it defrosts & starts working again.

I'll bet when you park it, you find a pretty large pool of water under it half an hour later, don't you?

Sorry, that's the nature of the beast - it's worse in humid weather, not so bad in dry weather. Pretty nearly all cars (with AC) do that unless the AC is designed oversized.

My 1997 Mercury Sable stalls at stop lights

I had this problem recently. It ended up being the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
It is easy to check. It is in the front of the engine on the fuel rail. Pop off the vacuum line and see if there is gasoline present. If so, this means that the diaphram is bad and the regulator needs replacing. It worked for both my stalling, and hard to start when hot problems.
