Air conditioner stopped cooling. Dealer diagnosed evaporator leak, replaced the evaporator assembly, expansion valve, drier, evacuated and charged the AC system. One week later, AC stopped cooling,...

It could be that there was more than one leak and the dealer found only one. The AC system has two pressure switches to protect the compressor from damage---a low press. switch cuts off the compressor when there is not enough refrigerant in the system, the high switch cuts off when pressures get so high they could blow out the seals. Both are a result of a leak--refrigerant leaks out and air can leak in. Air will compress and when it does, it gets hot--so no cooling, and pressures go way up. So the compressor may have been stopped by those protective switches.

Of course, there could be a bad relay or other circuit malfunction.

Another possibility is that the compressor sat too long before being repaired (but we are talking about weeks going by here, not days). The air and moisture (humidity) that leaks into the system during this time creates acids that will attack the metal reed valves in the compressor. On restart, the damaged metal valves eat themselves in short order. If this is the case, the compressor ran until it seized and will need to be replaced. This particular problem is impossible to diagnose. So the dealer may have done his best.

How do you replace an air compressor in a 99 olds alero

TAKE CAR TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP.THEY HAVE TO DISCHARGE AND RECOVER THE REFRIGERANT FROM CAR STORING IT IN STORAGE RECOVER UNIT.AGAINST THE LAW TO LET OUT REFRIGERANT IN THE ATOMOSHERE CAUSING OZONE DAMAGE.WHEN REFRIGERANT IS REMOVED THIS WILL BE THE CHEAPEST WAY.FIRST GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE BUY A PACK OF O - RINGS FOR AIRCONDITIONERS SYSTEM.THEY SHOULD BE GREEN COLOR NOT BLACK ONES.THEY ARE THE UNIVERSAL O -RINGS NOT MADE FOR AIR CONDITION SYSTEM.THE REFRIGERANT WILL DESTROY AND CAUSE LEAKS.WHEN YOU BUY O - RINGS.BUY NEW ACCUMULATOR THE OLD ONE FULL OF MOISTURE.YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE EXPANSION TUBE OR ORIFICE TUBE.IT IS LOCATED AT CONDENSOR LOWER LINE FITTING.BUY 1 BOTTLE OF R- 134 REFRIGERANT OIL. THEN BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR POUR THE OIL OUT OF IT.MEASURE HOW MUCH OIL IN COMPRESSOR.OKAY TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR FIRST REMOVE DRIVE BELT.THEN SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND REMOVE WHEEL AND SPLASH SHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE.DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FROM COMPRESSOR AND REMOVE COMPRESSOR REFRIGERANT LINES.THEN REMOVE COMPRESSOR MOUNTING BOLTS 2 BOLTS AT TOP 1 OR 2 BOLTS ON BOTTOM OF COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR.SEE HOW MUCH OIL COMES OUT.SHOULD BE A OUNCE OR TWO.GM COMPRESSOR HOLDS 10 TO 8 OUNCES.BUT WE DONT KNOW HOW MUCH IN SYSTEM.WHEN YOU BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.MEASURE HOW MUCH SHIPPING OIL IT HAS BY POURING IT OUT.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE I WOULD POUR 2 OUNCE REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR. POUR 1 OUNCE OIL IN ACCUMULATOR.REPLACE ALL THE O -RINGS AT THE COMPRESSOR AND ACCUMULATOR AND THE LOWER CONDENSORS LINES WHEN REPLACING THE ORIFICE TUBE.USE NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS TO REMOVE THE ORIFICE TUBE.BESURE TO PLACE THE LONG SCREEN ON THE INSIDE.BESURE TO LUBRICATE ALL O - RINGS WITH REFRIGERANT OIL.WHEN YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER.DONT OVER TIGHTEN THE REFRIGERANT LINES WHICH WILL CUT THE O - RINGS CAUSE LEAKING. TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE THAT DOES AC WORK.LET THEM PUMP DOWN THE SYSTEM AND LEAK TEST THEN CHARGE AC SYSTEM UP.THIS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY BECAUSE IF YOU BUY A VACUUM PUMP THATS ABOUT $400.00 AND MANIFOLD GAUGE SET A GOOD SET RANGE FROM $100.00 TO $300.00 DOLLARS.SEE YOUR AC COMPRESSOR $270.00 TO OVER $300.00 THAT ADDS UP.HOPE MOST THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THE HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL CAN ALSO HELP YOU IT HAS PHOTOS AND INFORMATION HOW TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR.

Air conditioner compressor clutch doesn't come on. what and where are the switch's that control the clutch and how do you test them. What other reasons might control the clutch.

You most likely have a low level of refrigerant in your system. There is a low pressure switch that prohibits the compressor clutch from turning on so if there is a leak in your system you should have it repaired, leak check, add correct type and amount of compressor oil and proper amount of refrigerant. Any repair facility can determine if that is the problem and should be able to perform the work. You should also check for voltage at the connector on the compressor, if you are getting voltage, then you know the problem is the compressor itself not turning on and you may not have a system leak if this is the case.

Need location of HIGH Gear Pressure Switch on gm transmission

Do you have a 1 piece case or does the bell housing unbolt? A 700R4 usually has 3 switches on the back of the valve body.the one closest to the 1-2 accumulator (pass. side rear corner) is the fourth switch. If you have a two piece case, you have a 4L60E,the pressure switch is still on the valve body but it is an assembly, not a single switch.

MAKE SURE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL IS CORRECT. BUT THE TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP IS TOO WEAK.IT NOT BUILDING UP ENOUGH PRESSURE FOR THE FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON TO APPLY.ALSO YOUR FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON SEALS.COULD BE LEAKING.WHEN ENGINE GET WARM AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID GET WARM.IT CAUSES FORWARD PISTON SEALS.TO EXPAND ENOUGH TO BUILD UP PRESSURE SO THE FORWARD CLUTCH PLATES WILL WORK.LOOK LIKE YOU ARE GOING TO NEED A TRANSMISSION OVER HAUL.

94 buick centry dose not take refrigerant also ac clutch dose not engage but i can spin it by hand?????

If your compressor shut down, it's probably due to lack of refrigerant. GM's have a safety feature built in to their compressors, if their is not enough refrigerant to power the compressor, it will shut down and require a reset. (disconnect neg battery cable for 20mins). Once the compressor has shut itself down, it won't accept more refrigerant until it has been reset.

Air conditioner compressor

The corvettes have this unit in them same problems.
Noisy compressors most of the time this comes from
improper installiation. either of the compressor its self or the clutch( which could be a paint to do with or w/o the tool). The other problems I've found with the R4's is the tech overfills them with oil and lastly the tension of the belt it spins off of is either too loose or too tight. Check all of this out before going for another compressor.
