Yes there is a adjustment underneth on the cables that needs 2 b tighted up not a lot should grab about 1 half way up

Hand brake adjustment on KIA Carnival


The Kia Carnival has drum brakes on the rear and they are self adjusting. They can however be adjusted by working the handbrake lever up and down a few times, if it has not been previously adjusted by using the cable adjustment, then this will probably not work, and it is something I come across quite a lot. if all this fails, then it is a matter of taking the wheels off and removing the drum. firstly check the position of the handbrake actuating lever (its connected to the cable) with the handbrake off (wheels chocked of course) the lever should be as far back as possible to the brake shoe, if it isn't check that you have a little bit of slack on the cable and it is not seized if not adjust the cable off a little so the levers return fully. if you look you will see the self adjuster you can turn the notched wheel a few clicks and then put the drum back on. make sure it is not binding when you turn it (a slight rub is ok) tap the drum (top, bottom, left, right) to centre the shoes (this is important because it will give false adjustment if you don't). once you have done this to both sides, double check both wheels are still running free. replace wheels a try handbrake, it should be ok now. Check how many clicks you need to pull the lever to apply brake and adjust the cable just enough to remove any slack in it, NO MORE. Warning! DO NOT HIT THE DRUM HARD AS IT WILL CAUSE FRACTURES. Change handbrake cable


Hi Steve, The problem sounds as if it is the park brake adjustment or wear on the cable, (which may be binding inside the outer cover. This can be caused by a frayed inner cable and the ends catching). Try adjustment first and then only replacement of the cable. I have not carried out the job on a vehicle of this type, but replacement should be straightforward and logical. I'm fairly sure it will mean the removal of the center consul and disassembly of the brake activation levers on the parking brake shoes. Take some photographs or make some sketches before disassembling so you know how to re assemble. Regards John

How to adjust the handbrake on a citroen c5 tourer 2009


Check to see if it has brake shoes inside the rear disk or it pulls on the caliper direct first before you mess around with it as their could be a fault here ??

Handbrake failing to engage,any solutions ?


Look under vehicle and see if cable at equalizer is hanging low. If it is or there is a lot of slack in it, then you just need an adjustment.
Basically, release brake handle, loosen the already loose cable (via equalizer nuts). pull handle back about...8 to 10 clicks/ notches. Then tighten equalizer nuts. Check it by releasing handle and this should release the rear wheels.Pulling handle up should apply parking brakes

Generally you should not have to replace the parking brake cable. It should have an adjustment to give more slack or takle up slack as needed. Get a Haynes manual (around $20 at autozone) for your car. It will tell you how to adjust the parking brake cable and/or how to replace the cable if that is needed. In most cases it is just an adjustment that is needed

if you follow the cable there will be a turn buckle at some point turn it until the slack is correct it is most likely under the vehicle before the two cables meet usually halfway down the body or directly under the driver seat along the frame

Quite often if you can get a look down beside handbrake,which may require removal of boot, you may see a switch that is activated by pulling handle, as well as an adjustment that would allow you to tighten slack in cable, up a bit to eliminate slack that is most likely causing the light to flicker. If not there, look under car where it attaches to the 2 rear cables for an adjustment, and tighten it up there. Not too tight, as you don't want brakes dragging, just snug. Remember, safety stands while your under there if it has to be done from under.

Chrysler voyager drum brakes excess hand brake travel no adjuster how can a take up slack


i had the same problem with my crysler voyager 1997,a friend of mine who is a mechanic found the problem,it is a self adjuster on the handbrake itself,once drums are adjusted up you need to go to your hanbrake area and you will find a white plastic clip on the bottom of the lever ,once removed you pull up your handbrake a few times and it self adjusts,then put the plastic clip back on,this soved my problem,by doing this my handbrake went from about 13 clicks on max to hold . to about 6 clicks and held perfectly
