If replaced everything you have to reset your ecm" computer" This will clear out the codes that was showing. If there is still a problem it will comeback up. To do this corectly might run by a dealer, Shoulnt cost just a few bucks. Good luck to you.

P0401 error code

Depending on your Year and Model, there are some more prone to this Code than others because of the material used in the intake manifold. Ford and its affiliates switched from Aluminum to Plastic to prevent sooting.

On the old style 4.6L a passage under the Airhorn would clog and prevent EGR flow. Bad EGR flow is a Code 401. It can be a Solenoid valve failing to open, but many times it is a clogged passage as I mentioned. Sometimes a bad EGR has a ruptured diaphragm which can be checked by drawing the Vacuum out of it.

For those engines a simple $10 gasket and removal of 8 screws will allow you to scrape out the valley the passage is in.

So this fix is not real expensive, get parts at common autoparts stores.

1999 5.4 liter. Check engine light on. Code P0401(EGR too little flow). Runs rough in o/d at 35-45mph, skipping some, terrible gas mileage.

Hi, welcome to FixYa.com my name is Shawn and I will be answering your question.
Two possible causes first a bad DPFE sensor which monitors EGR flow or next clogged EGR ports. Remove the throttle body 4 8mm bolts and a cable then clean the EGR passage out. Clear the code by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes.

I hope my assistance helped you and resolved your concern, if you need further assistance please ask.

1999 mercury sable engine code p1744,p0401. Failed e check. EGR looks new, replaced egr solenoid then cleared codes. what more can i do about the p0401 code and the p1744 code Thanks

for p0401:
In fixing this code, it is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.
Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open.
Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits.
Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model).
Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one).
Replace the EGR valve.

Check engine light came on 1996 acura slx code reads p0401

Code P0401 indicates insufficient EGR flow. It's quite common on this model. The solution involves removing the upper intake manifold and cleaning the EGR passage.

I replaced the egr valve and the check engine light is still on so what do I do the code still says p0401

When you replaced the EGR valve did you check the EGR passage to make sure it wasn't clogged. Since exhaust gasses flow through the EGR passage carbon builds up on the walls restricting flow which can eventually lead to the code p0401 Insufficient EGR flow.

Yes, this is a carbon issue. the EGR valve is very sensitive to carbon deposits. i suggest using pressured air to clean out this throttle body before you purchase another valve. it will keep rejecting the egr if its not cleaned.
