Question about 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

My son has a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup with a 5.7 Litre Hemi. It has started idling really rough - only about 500 rpm's when it is usually higher. When he steps on throttle it hesitates before it kicks in. When he steps on the brake, it hesitates and then goes to a low idle and sometimes kills itself. I think it is the fuel filter. the NAPA guy says the filter and pump are tied together. Is this correct and is the pump in the tank?

Pump is in the tank, and from what i've looked at the pump and filter are one in the same, but i'd get under it and look on the fuel line/s to see if there's a filter there, it should look like a metal can.

YOU COULD BE HAVING ENGINE MISFIRE.DUE TO BAD SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.ALSO DIRTY FUEL INJECTORS WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO ROUGH IDLE OR IDLE UP AND DOWN.PUT A BOTTLE OF FUEL INJECTOR CLEAN IN A FULL TANK OF GAS.ALSO CHANGE PLUGS AND WIRES.IF TRUCK HAS 30000 TO 60000 MILES ON IT.THATS THE SCHEDULE MAINTENCE INTERVALS IF SPARK PLUGS HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED.

If the engine seems to run fine over 1450 RPM maybe there is a vacuum hose leaking or EGR valve is slightly stuck open. Any help from the OBD II trouble codes? Or is there simply no MIL and no stored information in the OBD II computer read at the local parts store through the connector by the drivers knee?

Engine runing rough

This code is most likely not related to the problem, it sounds like you may have picked up some contaminated gasoline, maybe has water in it or other like dirt.
