Question about 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

Intake gaskets leaking antifreeze so pulled distributor and intake. Installed new gaskets and reinstalled the distributor. Now it won't start. Acts like it is out of time but the distributor hold down bracket does not move on the distributor and the distributor will only go in if the oil pump shaft lines up with the bottom of the distributor so how can it be out of time unless 180 out. I marked the position of the rotor before pulling the distributor. It is a 1997 chev blazer with 4.3 v-6. I am confused.

You need a scan tool to properly align distributor with cam position sensor in it, to sync up with all the right marks & number 1 cylinder.

2002 land rover discovery II overheated, it will start but won't keep running

Honestly it sounds like you eighter blow a head gasket or the intake manifold gasket. Do you see white steamy smoke coming out the tail pipe or if you pull the dip stick out do you see white fomey yellowish **** on the stick .Or if you look inside the antifreeze reseveor or radiator cap oil floating on top of the antifreeze. If any of these things are happening then the problem is antifreeze is leaking into one or more of the cylinders and the vehicle will not run good and this will reck the engine fast if not repaired quickly. So look for oil in the antifreeze or antifreeze in the engine oil

How do I locate a leak that lets antifreeze and oil mix inside the oil pan?

Most likely a head gasket. The coolant is forced into the oil chambers and mixes. This too leaks into the exhaust gases and burns off as you describe. You usually get oil in the coolant reservoir. This can be checked with a test strip available at automotive supply store. It measures the acidity in the coolant.

I HAVE ANTIFREEZE LEAKING OUT OF MY INTAKE MANIFOLD ON MY 1987 GMC JIMMY

I had this happen to me the first time I replaced my intake manifold gaskets. It was hard to install the intake and gasket moved just enough and I had a coolant leak. Removed manifold and installed new gaskets and problem was solved. Good Luck.

Lossing antifreeze but no puddles we think its the antifreeze intake gasget?

if no puddles or no keaks you can see, then its probably your head gaskets, or the intake gaskets leaking. look all around intake to see if you see any leaks. if you do its your intake gaskets. how does the coolant look! on my car when the intake gasket was leaking, it made the coolant look milky and a chocolate type mixture. so check it out first, the intake gasket. Coolant may flow through the gasket to the inside of the engine and mix with the oil. Pull the oil dipstick out and look at it. Oil mixed with coolant will have a thick consistency. Examine the oil filter cap for any rusty-looking residue. good-luck.

I have a 1996 Chevy truck 305. I have a misfire problem on #6. When I pulled the plug out it had some water in it, but only if it sits for along time. I have tried a new plug, a non-flower, any suggestion...

have the intake gaskets been replaced yet? if not then it might be antifreeze coming from the intake throught the intake valve or worst case scenario it could be a head gasket leak, most likely it is the intake gasket, hope this helps

Dissapearing antifreeze ,white smoke from tailpipe ,

I would pull the spark plugs and inspect them for discoloration. They will smell like coolant and be very clean. If they are all like that. Then it is possible to have a leaking throttle body. If only one cylinder is like that then it is possible to have a bad head gasket or leaking intake gasket at the cooling ports.

HOW TO REPLACE INTAKE MANIFOLD ON A LINCOLN

answer , very carefully ...

drain coolant , remove and mark all vacuum lines , make a schematic to diagram your hose routing, disconnect and plug all fuel lines, remove distributor and mark location of rotor, disconnect battery, remove any necessary cables, brackets and or accesseries, remove intake mounting bolts, note length of bolts and reference location, pry up on intake , remove intake, scrape old gasket off , must be very clean to reinstall new gasket or you will cause a leak..

I had leaking lower intake seal, pulled it into garage won't star

If the chain gear failed the distributor rotor will usually stutter as the engine is cranked, or, you will show extremely low compression on a comp test. Both are easy to do and I'd do that before continuing with other diagnosis. (also, a bad chain gear will often show up as engine cranking unusually fast)
