Question about Ford Escort
Are you sure it aint the starter thats hammering ?????
ok was just hoping it was.. Chances are you damaged the Tapits / Lifters / pistons / crack the head, that would account for the hammering sound, and the cutting off..,, problem is you will have to check it by a mechanic as it will take on the spot diagnostic to work it out. you can also try the radiator test to make sure its your engine , remove radiator cap and tumble, see if water pumps back out.
on the brighter side hopefully your clutch is binded to the engine.. since you have a manual car, put your shifter in neutral and try to roll it,, if it dont move your in luck, your clutch is binded and needs changing. if does my try a kickstart, to see if the clutck binded against the tranny
