I believe your car is equipped with Rear Coil springs and Shocks. You should start with inspecting the Shocks and the mount points on the top and bottom. Also check the Sway bar bushings and end links. When the Sway bar end links brake you don't notice much difference in the way the car drives except for the noise when you hid bumps, so that may be a likely source of the noise.

Rattling noise in rear of jeep when driving through rough roads. Escpecially in cold weather.

They are known for having the swaybar links go bad. You can check this by grabbing the end of the bar and pushing up and down, if there's movement the links are bad. You also should look at the shocks to see if there's any fluid leaking from them.

I have a clunk in my 2005 (5.3)silverado rear end. Have had the noise since I bought the truck. The Chevy Dealership couldn't duplicate the noise but I still can hear it when I drive through town and it...

It could be as simple as the exhaust bumping the rear end.
Or the trailer ball hitch rattling inside the receiver! (I had one customer wanted me to weld it so it wouldn't rattle any more!)

Slide under there, don't jack up the truck it will change the normal ride clearance. There should be a few inches of clearance between the exhaust pipe and the rear end. Move it around see if it bumps the rear end or the frame.

It could also be a bad U joint, grab the drive shaft near the U joints and move it around, if either is bad you'll see it moving. The caps that connect to the drive shaft have needle bearings inside them, if they're bad it will move or clunk at the cap, near the rubber seal.

Or it could be a little excessive end play in the rear end. Some cars/trucks are noisier than others. USUALLY not a big issue. It could clank for years. Just annoying.

Terrible rear end rattle

It's probably the rear sway bar links. If you can jack your car up and check right behind both rear wheels you will be abale to see the sway bar which is connected to short links about 5in long with ball joints.

If either of them are broken or not connected anymore it can cause some pretty loud noises when you ride on rough roads or hit bumps. They run about $35 per link so it's not a very expensive repair.

2001 Tarus clunking sound

very common problem is the sway bay end links that attach to the strut from the sway bar. They sound like a light chuckling knock over bumps. The bushings that hold the subframe up wear or the bolts loosed due to the bushings wearing. usually the rear ones The bushings are 2 piece ,upper and lower Tighten with 18mm socket

Rattle/clunk front end of a 2001 grand caravan

Front stabilizer/sway bar bushings sound worn. I had same, on my 91'. Felt like someone was thumping the floor under my feet sometimes. I managed to get away with spinning the outer ones at control arms, but replaced ones in middle at frame.

Front end noise

This sounds like the anti-rattle springs where left out of the brake calipers.
