Question about 2006 Ford Escape

1 Answer

I have a ford mondeo diesel tdci 130 2ltr 20006 year bought car and on way home noticed dark-ish heavy smoke when turbo kicked in and got worse over next few days. car eventually went on to run in `safe` mode and no turbo, but could turn engine on and off to get it back on with much dark smoke under acceleration. car would also stutter in first gear when turbo trying to kick in with lots of smoke and eventually now runs from cold in `safe` mode. when engine warm, will sometimes have turbo come back on if engine is turned off and on. Try to accelerate hard and `safe` made comes straight on. changed maf sensor and cleaned out egr valve which may or may not be working. got diagnostic done and it showed maf sensor fault, but still the same after changing it. Any ideas welcome.

Sounds about right for what i think it is ,now remove the EGR valve and make a gasket from a coca cola can and do not cut the middle out ,so it blocks it off completely then try it as i am almost positive this is your problem .

Ford focus tdci not starting and white smoke coming out of the exhaust

It is a clear case of the glow plugs malfunction. It had happened with my neighbor who tried to start his diesel focus one day.
Even jump starting with another battery didn't solve the starting problem.

You could also check the EGR valve for damages and if you want to save a couple of bucks, then go in for used parts for the focus from Good used Focus Stuff

Turbo on my diesel do not come on line most of the time, however when it does come on i can red line thengine and everything is smooth with full power,.When turbo is not on line on i get sluggish...

I had a similar problem in my Mondeo 1.8 TD a few years ago  and this was cured by changing the engine oil and filter to the correct type.

I had used the special  Duckhams 10w-40w Turbo Diese (or was it 15w-40w?) l oil  but once I changed it to the correct Ford 5w-30w (Formula-E ) ordinary oil, the turbo worked a treat every time.( I understand now that there is an even "thinner" option that works even better so worth checking ....Something like a 1w-30w )

A strange answer I know, but true

The only reason I used the Duckhams was because the chap in Halfords said it was the best one for a Turbo Diesel

Ford moneo turbo diesle s reg

there is a pipe witch runs from the diesel pump to the turbo which monitors pressure. sometimes a thin membrane in the pump goes releasing diesel straight in to the turbo especially on tick over. eventually that diesel is sucked in to the engine along with all the other gunk where it starts revving up on its own rattleing and banging. i have come across this on lucas diesel pumps before
