The chip needs to replace the one inside the cars cpu. consult a local garage to install it for you as it would involve removing the cars cpu, removing the oem chip and re soldering yours in place. Its rather easy to do but if your inexperienced or unsure of what your doing even with step by step detailed instructions you can kill the cars computer,,, but if you wanna try
1.) remove the cars cpu 2.) open it up 3.) locate the pcm module (it looks like the chip you brought) 4.) unsolder it and remove it using a chip puller 5.) replace it with yours. 6.) resolder and reassemble.
PS keep your old chip safe incase your cpu fails.

ok you should have a garage check it for you , the ones that specialized in modding vehicles or conversions. The will have to check your car, the chip and your oem chip for compability. DO not attemp this one your self. chances are the garage have a dummy box they can try the chip in first before its installed in your cars computer.

Will I apologize.. Ok.. PROM - Programmable Read only Memory, this t\is the chip that contains the operation algorithms which regulate the injector (timing) fuel air ration mixture as well as the other stuff. the only way to test if the chip if for your vehicle is from confirmation of the company the chip was programmed by. They would use the chip number giving version and verfication information to tell you the firmware the chip is based on. Other than that you need to test it.

    remove negative battery terminal...
    1.) locate the cpu, ...
2.) unbolt the harnesses connecting to it....
    3.) unjack the harness....
    Open the CPU (PCM UNIT)
    1.) turn the unit over...
2.) remove the screws to the bottom (its a Phillips)...
3.) turn the unit back over...
4.) lift the top lid (no pins 1 board nothing to drop)...

Change PROM To EPROM (yes the chip you have purchased is called and EPROM)

1.) unsolder pin 1 of the prom socket off the board. (this is the ground pin) or ground your self off to prevent static electricity from your body to expose to the chip.
2.) Using a chip puller pull the PROM free (LIFT STRAIGHT DONT BEND OR TILT)
3.) insert the EPROM and press in firmly / resolder pin 1 if unsoldered.
    4.) reassemble CPU

CONNECT the cpu back to the harness and reattach battery terminal.

TURN on ignition wait for any error message (blinking engine light)
If there is remove chip and reinsert the OEM's One
    IF not Start vehicle.
If it fails after 5 attempts the chip is not for your vehicle replace with OEM chip.

If it start allow to run for 10 minutes, cut off let it rest and start again.
Test Drive Vehicle. If satisfied all is well secure PROM in a safe location.

dangerous of a badly programmed chip,
Damage to the ECU / CPU / PCM
damages to throttle body sensor/ oxygen sensor / cam sensor / map sensor

The only people that can verify the authenticity of the chip is the company that programmed it. You can test it following the guidelines above and if it works properly let it run as its intended purpose. If not you will need to return it to the manufacturer. The reason why I recommended you have a garage try it is simply this. The exact procedure outlined above is what they will need to do to test it. If they mess up they will have to fix it for free. unless if they specify they are not responsible for damages done to your vehicle.

So thats why I suggested you let a garage do it I didnt not intend any offense and if such was caused I apologize for it .. With the above knowledge in hand please feel free to attempt it at your own risk seeing as no garage is there to pock up the cost of the bill.. Chances of damages are there but small. If its the wrong ship it simply wont work. meaning you car wont start properly, idle properly etc. If you have any further questions or clarification please feel free to ask , We'll assist with full details and instructions as needed.

Again no one can verify the authenticity of the chip or which vehicle its for besides the people that programmed it Or if you test it using the procedure I outlined in detail. No your not a fool and no your not looking stupid. I should have been more detailed in my responses to you but i chose the safer part ti safeguard you. These chips are actually hacked chips that they change the air fuel ratio mixture in to conserve fuel. Yes it conserves fuel, but you loose power , speed and acceleration which most people dont seem to mind. In some cases it causes rough idling, staggering / stalling and other un welcomed problems. In very rare cases it causes damage to the ECU (well itself , which dont matter cause you have the original anyway) or damages to the sensors. which is rare unless you force the engine started.

So if you wish to test it yourself, you have a guide to follow as previously outlined or use a garage and have them fit the bill if they mess up your choice. In my person experience I brought a moded chip for my evo 1, It worked but didn't like the functioning of my vehicle so i reverted to the original. But I gave it to a friend and he uses it without problems. Let me know if you have any more questions or anything you need cleared up. BTW.. PROM mean programed READ ONLY MEMORY, EPROM means ERASABLE Programmable READ Only MEMORY, meaning the chip you brought is modifiable, you can copy the code from your PROM and use it on our EPROM and modify it as well. This requires a EPROM burner,, and is basically what the people who made the chip did.

Just bought ford fiesta finesse 16 valve 03 1.2 am doing roughly 21mpg no leaks or drips this is round town and on motor way have not taken it above 65

As far as the review says the mileage should not falter since it is new as you said. However

These are the causes of a poor mileage in a car:-

Poorly Inflated Car Tires

Car tires that are improperly inflated create significant road resistance and drag on a moving car. A car engine has to work harder to propel a car forward due to this increased tire/road resistance. This resistance chips away at a car's gas mileage.

Dirty Air Filter

A dirty air filter impedes air flow into a car's engine, a process that disrupts normal engine combustion and makes it less efficient. This causes a reduction in both engine performance and gas mileage.

Bad Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are responsible for igniting a car's air/fuel mixture, an event that causes a mini explosion inside a car's engine cylinders. Bad or dysfunctional spark plugs don't fire, or ignite, properly; thus, they affect engine combustion negatively, which in turn negatively affects gas mileage.

Bad Oxygen Sensors

For a car to be at its most fuel efficient, its oxygen sensors, small and electronically operated, automatically adjust a car's air/fuel mixture and have to be functioning properly. Bad oxygen sensors cause abnormal air/fuel mixture ratios, a condition that results in poor gas mileage and poor vehicle performance.

Leaky Fuel Injectors

A car's fuel injection system is responsible for injecting precise amounts of fuel into a car's engine cylinders, where it is combined with air and ignited. For a car to perform properly, a specific amount of fuel has to be injected by each fuel injector into each engine cylinder. A leaky fuel injector wastes fuel by leaking it outside the engine and reducing the amount of fuel that makes it into the engine. This results in wasted fuel and reduced gas mileage.
It is suggested to start with a code scanner to find out if there are any stored fault codes in your car.

Looking for a chip for better gas miles

Those things are all rip-offs that do little or nothing to improve mileage or performance. You would be much better off cutting two or three holes in the vehicle's air box (where the air filter is) and replacing the standard filter with a K&N cartridge.

I bought a 1997 Chevy Silverado recently,Like the pickup but not the mileage and not so much the performance. I want to stay pretty much stock. I plan on getting some platinum NGK plugs for it. It has new...

Let me help you kill two birds with one stone. I own a 2001 chevy s10 pickup. I wanted more power and better gas milage, so I installed a cold air intake. With a cold air intake, your engine will ignite more oxygen, therefore saving gas. It also boasts your horsepower quite a bit that you can feel in your performance. I don't know about those performance chips. There are rumors about them that they do not work at all.

How to install performance module to 2006 lancer ES that will improve gas milage and add just a little horsepower

this depends on which type you buy. some just plug into your OBD port under the dash, and some will plug into an accessory port under the hood but when you buy one it should have instructions on how and where to install it. i know this is sort of a vague solution but really its as accurate as i can get. if i may i would like to offer you a suggestion on which one to buy. the super chips tuner chip is the best all around performance chip it improves your gas mileage by up to 3% (which may not seem like much but every little bit counts right) and gives a small bit of horse power gain the thing to keep in mind is, when you get one and install it the results may not be immediate. it will take your car a few drive cycles to recognize it, and make the necessary changes to the computer program. It will then start telling your fuel system to push less fuel and increase the throttle response and change the shift points in your transmission programming. all of these things combined will give you the economy and power you seek. there are cheaper chips out there but be careful because i bought one of the cheap ones and it caused my computer to go haywire and forced me to remove it and get a dealer to reprogram both the ecm (engine control module) and the bcm (body control module) to get it to run right without and codes. i have had great results from mine. after changing to full synthetic oil, a k&n air filter, E3 spark plugs and a super chips tuner chip I'm getting 22-24 mpg out of my 2005 Dodge Durango with a 4.7 liter v8 i couldn't ask for more. i hope this helps.

I am installing a performance chip and need to know the location of I.A.T sensor. Surburban,1500,350 engine,[5.7ltr.]

  • It may be built into your mass airflow sensor (if its not in the air intake tube. Reference:chev tech
  • I hope that is not one of those chips you can get on ebay, real they are a waste of money. there is not much you can do to improve fuel mileage.

Performance Chips

any modification has some degree of danger to it, but as long as it is installed correctly. there shouldn't be any danger. just keep in mind the limits of your vehicle. case in point by brother bought my dad a bully dog mod for a 06 ford f150 fx4. great system and will provide major gas and towing improvements but my dad mr computer illiterate just went and hooked it up without updating the mod controller....fried the computer in the truck. covered under warrenty with a few little white lies but still a 2400 dollar lesson that didnt needed to happen. final note just make sure you follor the instruction and if need be call the mod manufacturer if you have to.

good luck
