Bad plug or broken wire at the plug, at the alternator. Pull the plug off the alternator. Turn the key on and check for power and ground at the leads. No reading, probe the wires a couple inches back. If a read there fix or replace the plug. If you have a 3 wire plug, best to use an ohm meter. Test each wire separately. At the pin and a couple inches back on the wire. This test may include testing the wire back to the PCM and fuse panel. You'll need wiring schematics for this. The PCM is what fields the alternator to charge and supply power when the engine is running.

Cylinder #2 is showing misfire on my 97 ford f-150 any ideas on how to fix it?

If the engine is not really over heating as it sounds like it is not. The first thing to check is the ground wire that goes from the engine to the car body, if this wire is lose are broke the gauges will give a false reading. Try this first. As to the popping sound a little more info would help. Popping sound as going over bumps are when you are turning ?

How do I replace the Alternator on a 98 Saturn Sl1

Remove the plastic inner fender shield by turning the screw counterclockwise, then pulling the plastic free from the pop rivets. Set the shield aside. Disconnect the alternator's primary charge wire. Press the tension pulley firmly to release the tension on the primary drive belt, then slide the belt off of the alternator's pulley wheel. Unbolt the alternator from the mount by reaching into the engine compartment through the wheel well and turning the two mount bolts counterclockwise. Manipulate the alternator out of the engine compartment through the wheel well. Reconnect the primary charge post nut, securing the output wire back onto the alternator. Position a new alternator into the mount and secure it by turning its bolts clockwise. Replace the fender skirt shield by pressing it back onto its clips or pop rivets, then turning its screws clockwise. Replace the wheel and Reconnect the battery's positive terminal. Here you can find the Wholesale Alternators parts http://www.autopartspoint.com/products/alternator.html

Changed spark plugs AND HAD TO TAKE OFF THE ALTERNATOR TO GET TO BACK set of plugs. when replacing alternator hot wire touched the alternator casing and it arced, now car wont start

You melted a fusible link. These are on the starter solenoid, attached to the big terminal that has the battery cable on it. There should be maybe two or three of them. You can recognize them by what look like plastic barrels between the meltable portion and the hard wire. Grab each one individually and pull. If it stretches, it's melted. Sometimes there is enough left to put a **** splice in line, or maybe have to replace the whole thing. I think you can get these at your auto parts store. Take the barrel portion with you as the amperage rating should be molded into this part.

88 chevy pickup not sure where wires go from Alternator

make sure the pigtail is plugged into the alternator and that the power wire is hooked to the pin on the back of the alternator, if there is no plug there you can get a replacement one from the parts house with a pigtail fairly cheap and just solder it in place

I had a alternator replaced and now my radio doesn't work and my fuse for radio amp pops every time I put one in. I tried a higher amp but still doesn't work. I checked for shorts and it seems to be none....

Sounds like a short not afuse. Check all the wires and connections on the back of the alternator, make sure the plug is plugged in correctly also.

Are there any engine components that need to be removed to replace the 3 rear sparkplugs?

i did replace my plugs, there is a plastic clip on the alternator that holds the wiring on you can pop off to get out of the way to get to the plugs. Use gloves and if you have a spark plug boot puller tool it helps, since they get stuck and are hard to get off, and you can pull the wire out of the boot and will have to replace the whole wire. make sure the right wire goes back on the right plug.
