You have a blown headgasket. take spark plugs out and notice where they came from. if a plug looks clean like new and others look brown ,used, that is the cylinder that it is leaking into. also note the color of the oil. normal dark brown or is it overfull and a milky tanish brown. those also indicate a headgasket. But it is possible to have only one symptom and not the other or both.

Not good, the only way the coolant can get into the exhaust is there must be either a cylinder head gasket leaking coolant into a cylinder, or a cracked cylinder head in either case both are a bad deal.

2004 chevy cav just had cracked radiator replaced with new one.. now small leak in front and tail pipe dripping water.

No, you should not worry. Tail pipe dripping isn't related to your radiator. It's common especially if your vehicle sits alot.

Small oil leak. You need to find the source of it. Use some good engine degreaser and clean it up. You should then be able to find where it's coming from as you fire it up and check around. I understand sometimes that's hard because things are packed in. How fast are you losing oil? Check the level on your dipstick.

After ideling for fifteen minutes water is still dripping from the tail pipe

Check coolant level if you are not loosing coolant you do not have a major problem. The catalytic convertor is doing its job the parts inside the convertor reducing the bad air to good at and water . Like the other guy said if your radiator does not have an oily white slime and you do not smell a sweet odour from tail pipe or a blue cloud, it's just your muffler system is just cooling down, could get more technical but that would not be needed. K I S S rule.

How can i tell if i have a blown gasket i cant really tell where water is leaking from but i can kins see it running out what looks like a pan or somthing under like the water pump area under cranshaft and...

Hi, If you see white smoke coming from tail pipe then you will know it is leaking through engine.
I would suggest after you replace head gasket, that you put new radiator fluid (50/50) mix and a new thermostat in. The fluid will keep it from boiling over. Good luck.

HONDA CIVIC 1992 HEATING UP. i CLEAN THE RADIATOR WATER PUMP IS WORKING FINE THERE IS NO WATER LEAK - BUT STILL LOOSING WATER 1/2 LTS EVERY TWO DAYS

You may have a small pin hole in one of your hoses that is only leaking under pressure. Of course you may not notce it with the vehicle idling because the pressure is higher as the rpms rise while you are driving.

More importantly though, you need to check your oil dipstick. If the oil looks "milky" you may have water leaking into your oil. This can happen if you have a problem with your "heads" such as a small crack. A cracked head can lead to a blown motor so check it out as you are checking all of your hoses on your cooling systems.

Good Luck!

Heater not working

If you have a very clean tail pipe the water is going through the engine. This happens when the head gasket starts leaking from the water jacket into the cylinder and then is pushed out thru the tail pipe via the exhaust of the engine cylinder.

Here is a quick way to check for a blown / leaking head gasket. First start of the day remove the radiator cap and fill the radiator all the way to the ring area. Leave the cap off and start the vehicle. If it pushes lots of water out of the cap hole as you accelerate the engine then the head gasket is leaking into the water jacket of the engine.

You can possibly locate the cylinder that is causing the problem by removing the spark plugs one at a time. When you come across the very clean spark plug in comparison to all of the rest that is the cylinder that is leaking.

The only real fix for this is removal and replacement of the head gasket.

Thanks for using FixYa.

It is possible that yoiu crack the engine block. You should be able to see where the water is coming from the engine area, possibly ruined the head gasket only

Leaking oil put of tail pipe, is the cooling sensor important, head gasket blown how do you know

Never seen oil come from tail pipe (unless a piston has a broken ring or a hole burned in it.) Cooling sensor tells the computer the engine temp and the computer turns the fan on through the fan relay. Very important for it to work. A blown head gasket will make the engine overheat, can cause white smoke from tailpipe, coolant loss and extremely rough running. Also can cause coolant in engine oil or oil in radiator. What you may be seeing may be water mixed with carbon from the inside of the pipe. Excessive water coming form pipe is also a head gasket symptom. A compression test or cylinder leakdown test or a radiator hydrocarbon test will tell you if gasket has failed.

Heat the area by the muffler with a torch. Try not to heat the tail pipes themselves. Then take a pair of channel locks and wiggle them out.
