That is where the blower motor is located. It could be that there is some debris (leaves, road dirt etc..) in the blower motor. I'm not sure what kind of smell you are referring to but if that car has sat for an extended period of time I have seen small rodents get into the duct work and build nests in areas such as the blower motor. I would recommend not running the fan (so as not to damage it) and getting it to shop where they can get into the blower motor assembly and see whats stuck in there.

The air blower(squirrel cage) is located there also and things can get into it. I have twice had a mouse get into mine. One time he filled up the area with dry dog food he was hoarding for winter. The food made the fan off balance and made a noise. There wasn't a smell this time. But another time a mouse had gotten in it and I just happened to cut it on at the right time(wrong for him) and the fan cut his head off. After a few days you could smell the dead animal smell and I finally figured out where it was coming from. You have to take the fan out to clean it out if this is your problem.

2005'Towncar. 40k miles. Started making an odd sound on acceleration; hard to describe but sounds like it is coming from passenger dash side. Maybe an air noise?? No sound on very soft acceleration

Turn off heater/air conditioner and accelerate briskly. If noise does not occur problem is probably a regulator in the heater/air conditioning system located under the dash.

Where under the wiper passenger side is the filter in or out side 99 lincoln town car

99 Town Car has no cabin filter. Don't believe they ever did. My guess you have mildew on the AC evaporator. They make a spray to run through it to help in the AC section of your parts store. If not make sure there is no leaves ect under the cowl cover on the passenger side.

Will 89 town car run without ac belt?

Yes, the car will run fine without the compressor belt, as long as no other part, like the alternator, uses that belt. If the belt is just for the A/C, go ahead and remove or cut it. Many people just remove the belt when the AC no longer works.

2000 Lincoln town car. Heater fan is full on at full on position. Any other setting the fan is off. No speed control.

When one or more speeds on your heater/AC aren't functioning, the problem is usually the blower motor resistor. It's usually located near the firewall on the opposite side of the heater core.

Loud noise from under the dash, ac/heater area. No cool air 97 li

If this noise is a clicking sound and is coming from the front center of the dash, then it may be the blender door motor which will require removal of the dash to replace it. It will keep the door from switching from heat to a/c. Does the odor smell like you have a freon leak in your a/c evaporator core or does it smell like a rat stuck in your heater and a/c ducts?

If you notice a 'sweet' smell, or windows tend to fog up, it's your cars heater core leaking. The heater core is located under the dash, passenger side, it's like a mini radiator. The cars cooling system directs hot coolant to it so you can have heat. To change it is an involved procedure.
If there is no evidence of the anti-freeze smell or windows fogging up, and u have been using your air conditioner, it would be a blockage in the drain tube from the a/c. The end of the tube is located under the car on the passenger side , behind the front wheel. The blockage needs to be removed, and will solve the problem. Let me know what u find Curt
