Transmission noise in 2002 Mini Cooper 5 speed'

Anyone have a similar problem. I am a car dealer and I just traded for an 02 Cooper. The transmission makes a bearing noise. The noise sometimes goes away when you push in the clutch which sounds like a throw out bearing problem. However, the noise also remains while the clutch is engaged. Any input at all would be welcomed as I do not sell these cars regularly. I do not trust my local Mini dealer for advise.

My 2002 Mini Cooper has since the day of purchase made a whinning noise, and it is uncertain what it is, and it is NOT from the fan, or alt belt. It is however below and to the right. It is pronounced in the summer and when the wheels are slightly turned.

Most recently steering is very stiff, and the noise went away, how ironic!

I really am NOT prepared to fix this problem financially, yet.

car was running fine until I was leaving the gas station and was easing out of the bumpy drive way. I let off the clutch too soon and the engine cut off. now it will not start. we pushed started it and when you turn to engine off it will not restart.

The bearings do have problems on these vehicles, I just recently installed a rebuild kit in my 02 mini cooper 5spd and the problem seemed to be fixed for about a week and now I am having more problems than ever. I take (to some) what is considered extreme care of my vehicles and address problems before they start but this car has given me so many I can't keep up and it only has 140K on it. My last VW MKIII I sold with 270K while it was still running fine. This is my seventh vehicle and it has been the worst headache since day one, I will never buy a BMW car, motorcycle, or SUV again just from this vehicle experience. My solution to the problem scrap the car before investing more money into a dying cause.

The trans mission has bad bearings, most likely input & cluster as they rotate in neutral !

Check the blogs out on the net. apperentely the mini coopers have transmission problems. My 2004 with less the 49,000 miles just went out. I thought it was a theow out bearing also. But I was wrong.

2010 ford focus automatic trsnsmission makes rubbing noise when accelerating from acomplete stop . noise continues until 2nd gear engages. from then on all is fine. reverse sometimes doesnt engage, ma

A carrier bearing usually pertains to the differential assembly and would not cause the symptom you describe. There is a problem with this transmission that causes it to not drop completely to first gear after a period of driving. Ford is aware of it but I do not believe they have initiated a recall. Call your Ford dealer(s) to see if you can find an honest man. Ask for the service manager.

2005 mini cooper has loud humming noise from rear when driving above 40 mph. Any suggestions on what this could be

I had a similar issue and it ended up being a broken wheel bearing. I even ended up having two, one was broken on my front passenger side, and one broken on my rear driver side. The part costs about $280.00, but could cost around $400.00 with service repair. The noise of a broken wheel bearing can sound like a humming, and over time it becomes louder. The car can be driven with a broken wheel bearing, but doing so can eventually lead to other wheel/tire maintenance. MINI's endure this commonly due to their low profile to the ground. Here is a forum on further issues experienced, including the bearing, and efforts towards recalls. http://newmini.wordpress.com/2009/02/17/mini-cooper-power-steering-failure/#comment-884

Just had new clutch fitted on 02 ford focus 1.6 now making noise but stops when i press clutch down

A couple of things comes to mind, when you press the clutch you disengage the transmission. When the clutch is not pressed the transmission still spins inside even when it is in neutral. Sounds like a bearing inside the transmission is making noise, did they put fluid back in the transmission? Also another common source of noise is the throw out bearing, it is on the input shaft, it is the actual part that presses against the clutch pressure plate, usually though they make noise when the clutch is pressed and quiet down when released.

95 gmc sierra k1500 4x4 5spd manual noise

the leak is probably a separate issue from the noise. is the leak very bad? can you tell if it's engine oil or transmission lube/fluid? most likely the rear main bearing seal needs replacing. the noise is most likely the clutch release bearing. you should replace all components of the clutch assembly which include; clutch plate, pressure plate, release bearing and piolot bearing. also have the fly wheel resurfaced. while the trans is out, you can check the rear main seal and the trans input shaft seal and replace accordingly.

02 yukon denali has a whining noise similar to bad wheel bearings. wheel bearings were just replaced. could it be cv's, no clunking sound though. also, sometimes the vehicle ''jerks'' when accelerating,...

the jerking and noise you are experiencing is the drive chain and bearings in the transfer case also you may want to check the end play in both front and rear pinion bearings and yokes

Check the CV joint that the axle connects to. They make a clicking sound when turning a corner if badly worn. Both CV joints are commonly replaced when one of them goes out.
