Yes, radiator leaks are generally a bad thing and you definitely should remove them.

could be leaking at the top radiator hose going to thermostat, that is a hard spot to see leak remove the air filter and air filter housing look below throttle body you see thermostat housing, check for leaks around thermostat housing gasket and check for leak at the top radiator hose going to radiator and thermostat.if all is good check all radiator hoses for leaks check small coolant lines going to throttle body for leaks and check make sure bleeder screw on thermostat housing not loose it will leak also check around radiator and water pump heater bypass metal lines for leaks.

How to change a radiator


1988–91 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Properly drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Disconnect the fan motor and motor connector.
  4. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  5. Disconnect and plug the automatic transaxle cooling lines at the radiator, if equipped.
  6. Disconnect the coolant reservoir overflow hose.
  7. Remove the radiator attaching bolts and brackets.
  8. Remove the radiator with the cooling fan attached.
  9. Remove the cooling fan and shroud from the radiator. NOTE: Check all cooling system hoses for any signs of damage, leaks or deterioration and replace if necessary. To install:
  10. Attach the cooling fan and shroud to the radiator and install the assembly.
  11. Attach the radiator bolts and brackets. Tighten the radiator bracket bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  12. Connect the coolant reservoir overflow hose.
  13. Connect the automatic transaxle cooling lines to the radiator, if equipped.
  14. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  15. Connect the fan motor and thermo-switch wire connector.
  16. Refill the system with the proper type and quantity of coolant, check for leaks and bleed the cooling system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Coolant reservoir tank and bracket Upper mounting bracket Upper radiator hose Oil cooler lines, if equipped Lower radiator hose Cooling fan and condenser fan Fan motors and shields Radiator

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    Radiator Fan motors and shields Cooling and condenser fans and torque the bolts to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm) Lower radiator hose Oil cooler lines, if equipped Upper radiator hose Upper mounting bracket Coolant reservoir tank and bracket and torque the bolt to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm) Negative battery cable
  2. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.

  4. Remove the radiator by performing the following:
    CAUTION Lifting A/C condenser should be minimum to prevent a load to A/C piping.
    With lifting and pulling radiator in a rear direction, disassemble lower mount from radiator core support center. Lift A/C condenser up and remove radiator after disengaging the fitting as front-bottom surface After removing radiator, put A/C condenser on radiator core support center to prevent a load to A/C piping, and temporarily fix it with rope or similar means

To install:
  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2. Check radiator cap for any leaks.
  3. Start and warm up engine. Check for engine coolant leaks and A/T fluid leaks.

1992 volvo 960 radiator leak heater core leak We put Stop Leak but it's still leaking.


leak stop is just a temporary remedy, figure out why its leaking its probably that your radiator core is completely corroded thats why its leaking as well as the heater core. that require a little excercise taking it off, removing the corroded part or pipe and replace. if your radiator is aluminum or plastic that needs complete replacement.

1. Drain coolant
2 Remove lower splash shields
3. Disconnect the lower radiator hose and the high pressure transaxle line
4. Lower the vehicle
5. Disconnect the transaxle return line
6. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and degas hose
7. Position the hood latch assembly out of the way
8. remove the 2 bolts and the center support
9 remove the 2 top bolts retaining the cooling fan to the radiator
10. remove the upper radiator support brackets, and remove the radiator from the vehicle
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure

How do I remove the radiator from a 2000 Chrysler


Thats a lot of work to take it out if you dont need to. You will need to get a Radiator Pressure Tester or pay a repair shop to do it for you. When under pressure you will need a good flashlight and a mirror to pinpoint the leak. You can always get it warm, that will increase the pressure somewhat and then look for the leak. Radiators ususally leak at the ends where the tanks attach to the core or the tank can crack.

Hi, you 1st have to determine the exact location of the leak, which may involve removal of the radiator to repair anyway. How bad is the leak? How often do u have to add coolant, and how much? If it's a minor leak, you can purchase 'radiator stop leak' from a parts store, that will seal it.
so, try the stop leak if it's a minor leak, you can have it removed and repaired, or purchase a new one. Having said all that, the leak could be a hose leaking, but running down and dripping off the radiator making it look like a radiator leak. With engine warm but not running, use a small mirror to hunt around to see if u can find the source of the leak. Look closely under the radiator hoses, as that could be where the leak is. It would be from the radiator bottom and up, any further back and it wouldn't show up at the bottom of the radiator, so no need to check back any further. After 20 minutes, your motor usually comes up to temperature, so that's when the thermostat will open, and start circulating coolant through the radiator. (before that it is just recirculating in the motor). It also takes that long to build up heat pressure, so a leak appearing from the radiator at that point does make sense.

Removing and replacing a radiator is a fairly simple disconnect, reconnect job.
But a new radiator can be somewhat expensive. Some are made from aluminum, some copper (being that yours is a 2001, it's probably aluminum).
So the first step would be pricing out a replacement.

To actually R&R it, let the engine cool, drain the coolant, and dispose of properly, disconnect the hoses, if it's an automatic transmission, disconnect the cooler lines, and plug them with small rubber plugs, and then locate and remove the radiator hold down (it can either be the top plate, or just a couple of simple clamps, usually on the top only. Then lift out and remove the old radiator (it just sets down in the bottom locator) installation is the opposite. Set it in, connect the lines, refill with fresh coolant.

I would not try repairing the old radiator on your own. It can almost be considered an art to clean and re-solder leaks on them. You would then also need a tank and a pressurizer to test it after.

However, you can take your radiator to a radiator shop, and have them repair it for you. Depending in the leak, this can save a substantial amount of money.

A job like this should take less then an hour if you have a new part in-hand, longer if you decide to take it in to be repaired.
