SOURCE: need marks for timimg belt

On the crankshaft gear there is a VERY small dimple that aligns with a mark on the motor. The mark on the motor (a small triangle) is at roughly 11 o'clock. After you line these timing marks up look at the camshaft gear and you will see that on one of the spokes there is a hole. You need to use a mirror to line this hole up with the dimple on the cover that is behind the camshaft gear. (It is at roughly 1 o'clock) If this hole is 180 degrees from where it should be you need to rotate the motor 1 more revolution at the crankshaft and it should now be lined up, or close. Once lined up I like to take a silver (metallic) Sharpie and make my own mark on the camshaft gear and on the backing plate that is behind it. You can make this mark where ever it is convenient for you. As long as you know where your marks line up, that is all that matters. This way I don't have to use the mirror as often.

  • Step 5 Once you have your timing marks aligned you need to locate the tensioner. The tensioner obviously keeps the appropriate amount of tension on the timing belt.

The timing belt runs the water pump. If the pump bearing is bad, yes it could cause the timing belt to jump or even strip some of the teeth from the belt.

SOURCE: I need timing belt marks for new timing belt on a 1994 Toyota Camry LE 2.2L 4 cylinder

Firstly the no.1 piston should be at TDC (compression).

The upper camshaft sprocket has a smaller hole in the web. This should be lined up exactly with the TDC timing mark behind it on the cam bearing cap. In this position it will be vertically upwards.

At the same time the notch in the crankshaft pulley timing flange should be opposite the 0 degrees mark on the timing marks on the front of the lower belt cover.

I have a 1994 toyota camry le the timing is set and won't crank

The timing has nothing to so with the engine cranking, that is, the starter turning the engine over.

If the engine won't crank, the first thing to check is a weak or flat battery. Then on to the battery terminal tightness and cleanliness, and a good connection of the ground strap at the engine block and the chassis.

You could try a jump start to see if a stronger battery helps, but take care with the order of connections and use a jumper cable with a surge protector in it. Turn on the headlights of both cars as a further damper to voltage spikes.

In a car the age of this one it is possible the starter solenoid contacts are worn, they were in my 94 Camry.

If you mean the engine cranks but won't start, the causes are several. If you recently changed the timing belt, and it started before that, I'd have to suggest the timing is assembled a tooth or 2 out.
