Hi, If engine is cranking and not starting, dead fuel pump can prevent an engine from starting, but so can a problem with the ignition system or the engine itself (such as a broken timing belt). The first thing to check would be spark. This can be done by connecting a spark plug tester to a plug wire while the engine is cranking. The tester must be grounded to the engine block for a good electrical connection


If the ignition system is working properly, you should see a series of sparks while cranking the engine. No spark would indicate an ignition problem such as a bad crankshaft position sensor, ignition module or ignition coil.

why not post symptoms and ask a question.???
no engine size stated of the 3.
first off. there is no such switch.!
THE PCM on ALL suzuki's made In usa (ours vary)control the fuel pump and injectors under all conditions, not you, or any switch
it has no inertial switches like FORDs, its not a Ford.

the PUMP (fuel)
is activated cranking, the PCM closes a relay the relay sends 12vdc to the pump cranking ,an when running,
if the engine stalls for any reason the PCM cuts fuel at the injectors
and the PUMP.
that is how it works,
reasons to cut fuel are.
1: not running
2: lost spark
3: lost spark precursors, CMP /CKP senders, (same as lost spark)
4: cuts fuel cranking in the wide open throttle crank mode (super secret unflood mode,)

I changed the head gasket to my 300c now it won't start what do I do


make me even look up what the heck is a 300c. huh. nice.

what engine you got?. try posting that. and magic happens.
our blinders come off. then,,,,,
2.7 L EER V6
3.5 L EGG V6
5.7 L EZB HEMI V8
6.1 L ESF HEMI V8
3.0 L OM642 turbodiesel V6 and not even a year, are you kidding?????????
now my wild useless guesses: based on zilch inputs.
  1. you left off a cable. or hose.
  2. you failed to do a compression test to see if all that work did something. (warped head, no checked right is just that)
  3. spark dead, or wires.coils connected wrong, what engine,?
  4. fuse blown by not disconnecting the battery neg lug first.
  5. there is no oil pressure cranking and the car can detect that and cut spark , I ALWAYS check oil pressure and top end oil, cranking with fuel cut before light the fires of any new engine or major work, done many not one ever seized of mine, in 50years.
  6. back to basics, got compression, got spark all cyl, timed right , firing order right, and fueling got fuel?
  7. if spark is good, test fuel works ,does it?

98 nissan frontier cranks but wont start when hot


Unless the head gasket is leaking, I would think you are looking for something electrical that is not working when hot, or a fuel problem.
Do you know if you have spark and fuel pressure when it will not start ?

Car will not start. Fuelpump shutoff is pushed in.


Lets cover the basics first. An engine requires 3 things before it will run. Fuel, fire and compression. First check that the engine is getting gas. Second, see if the coil has enough spark and third, you will have to use a compression check gauge rentable from autozone to see if you may have a blown head gasket.

Car turns over but does not start. Battery good


If it over heated, could have bad head gasket's, fill radiator with water, crank engine with radiator cap off, if water is push out of radiator while cranking, bad head gaskets', also remove spark plug's, crank engine if any water, bad head gasket, also when spark plug's removed, check for any water on them.If there is any water on plug's, bad head gasket, also could try doing a cylinder compression test, if bad compression, head gasket, no compression, wont start that way.

I have a 1991 ford fairmont ea model and we are trying to start it it will turn over but will not start we have changed the fuel pump are you able to help us anr tell us what is wrong.


You need three basic elements for an internal combustion engine to run - spark, fuel, and oxygen. First, pull the distributor cap and check the condition of the rotor button, make certain that the coil wire is in place. This should take care of the spark problem, you should not have to change all the plugs to crank it. Next, since it is turning over check for major vacuum leaks such as the vacuum line running into the brake cylinder. Next, since you changed the fuel pump disconnect the fuel line at the carb and turn the engine over until you have fuel coming through the line, it would also help to change any fuel filters between the carb and the gas tank. Reconnect the fuel line and pour a small amount of fuel directly into the carb. The carb may have set for too long and become dry, this should prime the system. Once it cranks you can fine tune and find out any other small problems such as bad plugs, bad wires, and minor vacuum leaks.

change the aluminium fuel filter, under the back, and check for another towards the front, some have extras....

No Spark


If it's an 83 Fairmont. Take a bottle of water with you and the next time it cuts off, turn off the ignition, open the hood and pour the water slowly over the electronic ignition module mounted on the inside of the fender.[it looks like a small alluminum box]
Caution-do not pour it on the connector where the wires come out, only on the other end.
Then try to start the car, if it starts the module is probably going bad, because they overheat and cut off when they do.
