If it has done around 50 000 miles, yes, but even if it has done somewhat less than that, you may as well, you are there anyway and it will save your doing half that work again in the near future.

Not necessary ,, however if you havent changed it in a while its recommended you do so as this will save you cost of having to change open up and replace it as well as the gasket later on. so yes go ahead and replace it if you havent done so in a while.

2000 pontiac sunfire replaced head gasket now it still wont start, it just backfires

It sounds like a timing issue. Make sure the cam shafts and timing belt are installed correctly. Hopefully you have not belt any valves while trying to start it. Good luck.

I need to know the torque specs for the head gasket for a 99 2.2 pontiac sunfire

Install cylinder head bolts finger-tight. New cylinder head bolts are recommended due to stretch of the old bolts.
Tighten bolts in sequence, tighten the long bolts to 46 ft. lbs. (63 Nm) plue 90 degrees. Tighten the short bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm)

Install pushrode and rocker arms and rocker arm nuts. Tighten nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

Install valve cover and tighten bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

I need to change the water pump

I don't see the question. But you'll need a socket set, water pump, gasket, sealant. Also new timing belt. If it's in the way. I would recommend letting an expert do the timing belt change.

After spending 880 dollors on having a head gasket water pump and radiator replaced in my 1998 pontiac sunfire 2.2 liter it has no flow thru the brand new radiator engine runs supur hot 260 degrees in 2...

YOU COULD HAVE A DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP OR THERMOSTAT ALSO RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.MAKE SURE YOUR WATER PUMP IS BEING TURNED BY DRIVE BELT.NOT SLIPPING.MAKE SURE COOLANT SYSTEM HAS BEEN BLED AND YOU HAVE HALF ANTIFREEZE HALF WATER.CHECK YOUR CRANKCASE WHEN CAR COOLS DOWN.IF OIL STILL LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE.YOUR NEW HEAD GASKETS LEAKING.THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED HEAD GASKET DIDNT DECK THE HEADS.THEY PROBABLY NEED SHAVED A LITTLE SO HEAD GASKET WILL SEAL.

HEAD gASKET LEAKING aNTIFREEZE INTO CYLINDER

You must remove head by disconnecting belts, hoses, intake & exhaust manifolds, injectors & timing belt. Take head in for exchange or have own head checked for warpage & cracks due to overheating. If you have the necessary tools & know how proceed. If not get a qualified mechanic.

Head gasket on sunfire

It's one of the more difficult and picky tasks. If you torque them down wrong, it's a waste of time and money. You can screw up the new gasket and warp the heads very easily. Have the heads machined whether they need it or not. And just as important, follow the book, step by step. Good luck, you're going to need it.

I replaced the head gasket on my 97 Sunfire it doesn't start

If your timing is off you will have no power.check and make sure all timing mark's are correct. Some engine's are contact motor's,which mean's if your timing is off you could cause damage to valve's or piston's.Also you should do a compression test to be sure each cylinder has adequite pressure.Hope this help's.
