Question about 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

I have purchased a rebuild kit for my transfer case (263xhd). I am having a problem splitting the case. I have removed the snap rings from the input shaft and the forward output shaft, but do not know how to remove the snap ring from the rear output shaft. Is there a special tool? Any help would be appreciated. I am able to get the case split about 3 inches, but no farther. The reason for the splitting the case is that the chain apears to be loose, so I decided to replace the chain, all the bearings and seals and to install the piece for the pump rub issue.

I think you will find that this noise is due to a failed transfer case component, the best thing to do is buy a rebuilt unit from GM or you can locate them online as well.

TRANSFER CASE CAN BE REPAIRED BUT IT WILL CHEAPER TO TRADE OLD UNIT FOR A REBUILD ONE.BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE HIGHLY SKILLED TO FIX TRANSFER CASE.YOU HAVE MANY SMALL PARTS.AND NUMEROUS CLEARANCES MUST BE PRECISELY MEASURED CORRECTLY LIKE SPACERS AND SNAP RINGS.YOU NEED TOOLS TO DO OVER HAUL.SAYING THIS WOULD BE CHEAPER TRADE IN TRANSFER CASE FOR A REBUILT ONE OR TAKE THE OLD TRANSFER CASE TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP HAVE THEM OVER HAUL IT.GOING COST EITHER WAY.IF REMOVE TRANSFERCASE YOUR SELF PROBABLY SAVE YOU $400.00 LABOR CHARGE TAKE 3 TO 4 HRS TO REMOVE TRANSFER CASE.

Tried removing the front drive shaft from transfer case. It won't come off, could there be something holding it from inside the transfer case?

Unbolt it from the front diff and then pull it out of the front of the transfer case. There will be a small snap ring inside that will offer up resistance, but it does slide out with some help, use your pry bar between the shield and the t-case to "pop" the spline past the snap ring inside. the first one i did i was kinda leary of prying on this too, but it was what was required just pull on the front drive shaft with one hand, and pry behind the shield with the other it'll feel like it's not going anywhere, but watch out, it'll just "pop" and be out. Be careful!! Good Luck!

Repair master clutch cylinder on a 92 300zx

You should be able to buy a rebuild kit for the cylinder, I would rebuild the slave and master. just take it off, take the snap ring off and remove the piston, make a note of which direction its facing, the new one may come with a piston with the seal aready installed. The cup will have the flare facing forward. Just put the new seal on/ or piston in and reseat the snap ring. The slave is just as easy. then you want to bleed all the air out. Fill master cylinder and open the slave bleeder screw, just let fluid come out until all the air bubbles quit. that should bleed it. If the pedal dosent feel right, you may need to have another person depress the pedal and then open the bleeder.

There is a snap ring at the back of the transfer case that breaks. It can be fixed without removing the transfer case. Remove the rear driveline and the small housing at the back of the case. The snap ring holds the bearing in place.

Chevy Transfer Case

The most common thing to go wrong with chevy transfercase is the rear tailshaft has a snap ring that breakes. Just remove the bolts holding it on and inspect the shaft and see if the snap ring is broken. Then just replace it with a new on from the dealer.
