Question about 1996 Honda Passport

1 Answer

Need your assistance

Hello,
I saw you are an expert on the Honda Passport.
we have a 1996 EX. The body is in good shape and was used by our son for about 3 years.
He got another vehicle that was a bit more fuel efficient and I was to take over the Passport. It is a nice car and is the nicest car I've ever owned.
My question to you is the car is in need of major brake repair and I am worried on if the timing belt has been replaced.
It has 124,000. So it's in need of the above mentioned as well as shocks and an exhaust system.
My question to you is the car worth putting that much, almost $3000 in it.
Our mechanic knows the car fairly well and said it's our decision.
I'm sure he'll cash our check. It will give us an extra car and I'd have a 4x4 for the first time in 30 years. I was going to do the repair a bit at a time with the brakes first. So economically I think we could handle it.
And I might coerce my brother-in-law into helping with the brakes.
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
Tom Johnson

    Pierre,
Thank you for your quick response.
i kind of was thinking the same as you but not knowing the Passport needed some advice.
I will see how I come out as far as talking relatives into helping me with the brakes and such.
I have a 1930 Chevy truck that I have been working on it seems like for ever.
I have been emailing André Cloutier of Quebec about his truck as well. He has some beautiful automobiles besides his 1931 Chevy.
well, I better go get started on one of my projects.
    Thanks again for your advice.

1996 honda passport miss firing

which engine?
so there can only be 3 reasons, and 3 tests to find this.
1: lost compression on #4, 150psi or more is normal, w.o.t.
2: lost spark, use a test spark plug , pass or fail. is the one in the engine new? or 15 years old.????
3: lost fueling, or too much is called flooding...

if #4 spark plug tip is dry (and 1,2 above pass) then the injector is dead. (3 reason why and more FSM tests)
if the spark pug is wet ,it leaks or the drive signal to it is stuck
use a NOID light to test the signal.
if it leaks its bad. if signal is good.

its that simple.
ask more.

pretend its 6 engines, there. and find it easy

in usa we can scan this with any scan tool and see errors
got DTC P0304? (misfire#4)

Tune up

It depend on the mileage. A basic for me includes:
Air filter
Fuel Filter
PCV
Clean the throttle body
maybe the plugs depending on the mileage.
Other shop only change oil, and air filter and try to sell you everything else under the sun.

1996 Honda Passport LX starter replacement

I HERE YOU BROTHER, I TYPICALLY DO ALL MY OWN WORK BUT THIS ONES FOR THE CERTIFIED MECHANICS. I ALSO LAID UNDER MY PASSPORT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT. I FINALLY WENT AND GOT A QUOTE FROM MY MECHANIC WHO I DO USE FROM TIME TO TIME. $137.26 JUST LABOR , I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED THE STARTER. BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT! I PICKED IT UP AND HE TOLD ME (GET THAT THING OUTA HERE JOKINGLY) IT ENDED UP TAKING HIM AND HIS CREW 6.5 HOURS TO COMPLETE THE JOB. MY MECHANIC HAS ALWAYS HELD TRUE TO HIS WORD SO I WAS CHARGED EXACTLY WHAT I HAD BEEN QUOTED. THEY BROKE OFF BOLTS , TORE UP TOOLS , AND EVEN HAD TO USE A CUTTING TORCH. MY ADVICE: GET THE LOWEST QUOTE FROM A GOOD MECHANIC , MAKE SURE THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR QUOTE AND LET THEM HAVE AT IT. HOPE THIS HELPS AND SAVES YOU A BIG HEADACHE!GOOD LUCK.

Reverse lights on 1994 Honda Passport wont work

I think the problem is in the shifter itself. Probably a bad contact after all of the years of use. If your real sneaky you could probably get inside the shifter and bend the contact point back into place.
