All you need to do is look at the bottom of them to see if they have a grease nipple underneath , most newer Fords do not have them though and it is easier to just replace the control arms and BJ together. Ball joints without grease fittings are usually riveted into place and have to be drilled out, making it a difficult job, so it is easier to replace the control arm and balljoint together. You need to have an alignment done when the repair is finished for a complete job.

The lower joints are probably okay.....check the uppers, though, and the A-frame bushings might be bad.Replace the stabilizer links if worn.I adjusted the play out of my steering box also, and came out with a pretty nice handling result. don-ohio

1996 Mercury Grand Marquis - wipers will not work. Have check multifunctional switch and motor. Both ok.

if motor and switch are ok and the motor is running, then it's the ball joints on the arms that have become disconnected underneath the windshield in the firewall vicinity. Also, the wiper arms could be stripped out.
