There are possibly other problems causing this light to come on. You can try resetting the computer on the vehicle, by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, and then see if the light is still coming on. Also, check to make sure the fluid canister is still full. If neither of these work, it is in the electric ABS system, which as many selonoids, and will most likely require a computer scan to determine which piece is going out. Otherwise you'll have to basically guess and choose which piece might be broke until you stumble across the right piece.

I have 2002 chrysler grand voyager 3.3 litre auto. abs light came on and is gone now , but there is a lot of vibration and rattle when i press brake. What do i do?

Inspect both the front and rear brakes. Including rotors, drums( if equipped in rear), abs sensors and wiring to the sensors, and brake pads/shoes. Also be sure to remove the calipers and look at the brake pads to check for worn out or uneven wear and replace if necessary. Hope this helps

A light in the dashboard turns on today and I have no idea what is the symbol for? is like a circle with 3 rectangles in line on each side this is a BMW 318i, 1996

This is the brake wear indicator. When the brake pads get too thin, this sensor, which is mounted in the brake pad backing on the front left wheel and the rear right wheel, touches the rotor and wears through, grounding out the contacts and illuminating the light.
Once the light is lit, you will need to buy a new sensor as well as new brake pads. The sensor is not expensive.
First step is to examine the brake pads and determine if you need front pads or rear pads or both. Don't be surprised if you need new rotors as well as pads. Check for a significant lip at the outer edge of the rotor. If the pads have worn in the sides of the rotor more than about 1/16", you are due for rotors.
You cannot go wrong with BMW branded pads. They are safe and work great, but they are really dirty. If you want to try other brands, read the reviews. Some squeak and some fade.
I use Mexican made Brembo rotors. They work well but they rust quickly, so the brakes squeak a bit the first time you press them after washing the car or driving in the rain. More expensive rotors or BMW branded rotors don't rust so much, but they cost a lot more and don't necessarily last any longer.
After replacing the pads, turn the key to the On position and leave it on for about 90 seconds before starting the car to reset the brake pad warning light.

Every time i slow down or brake you can hear a loud squealing but i was told that my brakes were fine but is there something else that's causing them to be noisy?

It could be harmonics. If pads were recently replaced they should have applied a gasket or membrane (similar to silicone sealer) to rear sides of pads.Pull wheels and visually check - 1st that brake wear sensor is not rubbing rotor. 2nd that sealer/gasket has been applied to rear of each pad (of wheel in question)

Did you replace the wear sensors. If the sensors were activated(the light went on) before you changed the pads then the sensor must be replaced

Rear brake pads wear out every 30000 miles on 2002 3/4 tod hd , rotors are pitted bad

That's to be expected and is completely normal.

Rear brake shoes as fitted to drum brakes can typically last up to 60k miles with periodic adjustments, but you have rear disc brakes and the shoes will typically last half of that.

Also, modern brake pads no longer contain asbestos and are now made using harder metallic compounds; the direct result is that brake discs (US=rotors) are also considered to be consumable items as they are worn down by the harder pads. It's not unusual to have to replace front discs every other pad change and rear ones with every pad change; in both cases the mileage will typically be around 30k miles on most models.

How to install brake pads on a 2002 land rover freelander

Jack ukp one side of car. Remove tire. You will see disk brake. Remove two bolts holding the caliper on. Remove the pads. Now once you remove the pads the piston applying the pressure will come all the way out. So you will need a 6" C clamp to push this back in when you replace the pads. You will need some anti seizing compound and some high temp grease to do the job right. Check the rotors, if glazed or smooth, have them turned at any maching shop or brake place. When using the c clamp to push the piston in remove the brake fluid cap and sipon some off, pushing the piston back in will cause the brake fluid to overflow. Replace the brake fluid upon completion of the job. Do one wheel at a time.

BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

I dunno if this will work on your BMW, but on my BMW Z3 and M3, it was....

Turn the ignition key to position 2, but do NOT start the car. Wait for about 45 seconds and the brake warning message will be reset.

If it doesn't reset, then the brake sensor was damage. You will need to replace the brake sensor. It sounds like you replace the brake right after you saw the warning, so the brake sensor should be okay.
