The flexplate may not be sitting flush against the crank, or the crank may be out of balance causing a vibration and breaking the flex plate. try turning the crank by hand and feeling for any irregularities and look for signs of heavy wear on the broken plates.

How to replace flex plate on 96 Buick skylark

remove the transmission first
( keep the torque converter with the transmission as a unit ) use an impact gun , remove the crankshaft bolts for the flex plate making you keep the washers in the correct order for the new plate
fit the new plate

What i "think" is broken ...ie: flex plate.

the only way to check the flex plate without pulling the trans is if you have diagnostic tools like a meter with scope capability to check crank waveform to the cam waveform to see if its out of sink. if you don`t you will have to pull the trans and visually inspect the flex plate.

I got a 1999 Kia Sportage is turning over fine but its not firing and I just put a new fuel filter in it it did wrong but it quit on me is there an external voltage regulator that's not on the alternator...

I see what you are saying to be you either it jumped time try to chabye the distributer calling wires avenue plugs if that is not it then you possibly have a blown head gasket
If the engine won't crank or cranks but does not start, the flex plate between the engine and transmission may be cracked. A cracked flex plate will cause an erratic cranking signal to the powertrain computer

How do you align the flex plate on 2004 Dodge Stratus 2.7?

i believe that the flex plate only goes on one way and it sends a signal to the crank sensor that is what all of the slots on the flex plate are for the crank sensor is located on the outside of the transmission it has one bolt and a electrical wire connection unplug it and pull it out of the transmission be careful not to break it they some times are stuck but with a little movement left and right then pry it up with a screwdriver you could have damaged this during intstallation of the fly wheel because these go in the transmission and ride real close to the flexplate check and see if you have spark at the spark plugs if not i believe you may have damaged this good luck i hope this helps

NOISY FLEX PLATE, KEEPS CRACKING AROUND MOUNT ING SCREWS (3) , WELDED UP CRACKS AND REPLACE SCREWS, IN A WEEK STARTS GETTING NOISY AGAIN WE HAVE WELDED THESES CRACKS 3 TIME NOW, HAVE REPLACED NEW FLEX...

sounds like it is incorrect flex plate
for bolts to keep coming loose i wouldsay the bolt threads in end of crank have been streched thru over tightening
you may be able to redrill and tap these
to do this you will have to pull engine
you alsocannot weld craCKS IN A FLEX PLATE
FLEX PLATES flex THEREFORE WELDING IS A WASTE OF TIME
WELDING WILL ALSO PUT FLEX PLATE OUT OF BALANCE WHICH AGIAN WILL CAUSE CRACKS AND PROBABLY WAS THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM TO START WITH

Flexplate keeps brakeing this is the 3rd one just replaced the motor right before this preob what is wrong with it

You're going to have to check 3 things specifically:

1. If the crankshaft is bent a slight amount, then each revolution of the crankshaft is causing more than the prescribed amount of flex that was intended, then much like a coathanger, eventually when constantly over bent-breakage occurs. A crankshaft can have a minor bend in it without causing the engine not to work. A leaking front or rear main seal can be a good indicator of a crank problem.

2. The other way that this happens is if the crank is straight & when hooked to the torque converter, the torque converter is cocked to one side or another, worn pilot bearing or bushings, or the mounting bolts/surfaces are uneven for whatever reason..

3. The only other thing that I can suggest is that you make sure your mounting pins keep the bellhousing & engine perfectly aligned when assembling them as any lateral movement or a gap between the two would also put a twist to the flex plate resulting in failure.

I've always tried to take the time with the trans out to check the flex plate on the engine by measuring & rotating, same when it comes time to align & assemble, I always rotate the engine as I'm connecting the trans in order to make sure that everything is working smoothly, and after all of the bolts are in, I like to make several revolutions to check for any binding or restriction. I hope that this sheds some light possible reasons for the breakage, good luck

Hello I have a 2001 Range Rover it stops after you drive it for about 10 minutes then will not restart until it cools down.I had an issue with the air flow sensor but have replaced this.

Hi it is common on range rovers that the flywheel flex plate cracks or brakes up, this in turn damages the crank sensor causing the engine to stop. I have had more than one car with this same fault.
Remove and inspect crank sensor for damage10 mins job just above the sump on left side of car from underneath.
Thanks rob
