It could be your fuel pump, its a fairly common problem. But I would change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure to see if its low before I just jumped in and changed it.

Dirty airfilter ?
Clogged fuel filter ?
Dirty throttle-body ?
Corrosion on battery terminal ?
Loose battery cable on starter selenoid ?
These are the things I'd check first then proceed further.

Start with the throttle body. I use brake clean and a toothbrush. Clean the plate and were it sits. Wouldn't hurt to spray down the MAF sensor, if it has one. Once you do it, it will take a few seconds to start. Once started, rev it up and spray inside the throttle. Keep it running. Most times this is a $4 fix.

3 possibilites , dirty throttle body, idle air control motor or the EGR valve , either one will cause that problem

Stops for no reason

sounds like a fuel problem could be a fuel pump or filter problem you would need to have that checked. other reason for stalling it could be a faulty idle, but with a faulty idle it should still start back up first time.. so would check spark plug leads and plugs. also check for air leaks, its common for the plastic air lines to crack replace with rubber type.

Car wont always start. idles high and wants to stall when taking off from a stop sign or traffic light. engine light stays on

you may have a bad idle control sensor. is your check engine light on? if so,then you can have it coderead at autozone or advance auto for free. but the check engine light has to be on in order to diagnose it,for free.thank you for choosing fixya.com.

Engine stalls while sitting at traffic light. Seems to happen after engine wms up

To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

check your vaucumn hoses for leaks any leak in that system will effect your fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail that controls the running ability

My 94 Sedan DeVille had the same problem. The car ran great but would stall whenever I stopped at a stop sign or traffic light. Turned out to the the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It monitors and controls the idle. What happens is the secondary idle (idle when the car is warm) is too low. Since all the controls for fuel mixture, idle etc are done electronically, they can't be manually adjusted. The TPS is the most likely cause of your issue. A diagnostic test (performed free at most chain auto parts stores) will be able to confirm this or lead you to another component. Best of luck to you!

1999 Volvo S70 Stalls at stop signs and traffic lights

These models had a problem with the electronic control modules, and this is what controls the idle speed. Sometimes they just need to be cleaned, but sometimes they are defective. Volvo has extended the warranty on some of them to 10 years or 200,000 miles if it is found to be defective.
