The Check Engine Light is on? Did you read the DTCs.

The second link has the answer, the first link says it is a known issue. It is times like this you need the Dealership or a good auto electrician.

Trans will not go in any gears when engine is hot

is the fluid in the trans over filled and foamy? check the level and color (red not brown) it should be low on the marks when cold and running in park. and high but NEVER past the marks when hot.

Sounds like a shift solenoid problem. If you have any codes associated with solenoid failure, that is probably what it is. If there are no codes, it is probably something stuck in the valve body or something else mechanical.

1999 dodge 1500 5.2 will not shift to second once the engine reaches normal temperture or I shift from drive to nutural and back to drive then it will work fine untill the next time I stop. filter, fluid, shift slenoid,governor sensor have been replaced.

I just purchased it today. The RPM's goes up to 4

You'll want to doublecheck & make sure the Overdrive is turned on. That's a high rpm for 55, even high I believe for Interstate cruising at 65-70.

Possibly get back to the dealer immediately if it's not the Overdrive switch.

There are issues with some models that concern the RPM staying around 4,000 even at idle & under the right circumstances, a transmission won't shift as it should based upon engine & driving signals that the Trans computer uses to determine when to shift.

Check your fluid first & remember, Overdrive doesn't work until the fluid reaches a certain temperature.

the trans computer has seen a problem possible a bad sensor, or an internal problem, and puts it into a safe mode, or limp home mode , it wont shift , it will stay in 3rd gear, this way this reduces the possibility of further damage trans damage, when you turn the ignition off and back on it resets the tcm, my advice is to take it to your local dealer, they can diag your trans as they know the product, i dont advise pep boys, or discount auto parts.

sounds like your transmission is going out,replace fluid and add a lucas trans conditioner

Transmission shifting into nuetral

Check your fluid level. If the fluid level gets low, the pump basically pumps the pan dry in which the trans. valve body has no fluid to direct to keep in engaged in gear. Check your fluid level while running at operating temp. in nuetral. If this checks out ok, the trans. clutches are worn out to the point of the trans. no longer has the ability to stay engaged.

This could be a problem with the transmission. If you have a scanner, there may be an error detected by the car's ECU. It would help to accurately identify the problem. The problem could also be an issue with the transmission's electronics. A specific part that comes in mind is the speed sensor other than that it could be the solenoid which controls the actual gear changing of the transmission. It may just need cleaning or may need replacing. Inspect also the automatic transmission fluid. It may just need replacing.

This is a computer problem. check all the connections on the trans and the computer(s)

I'm sure you checked the fluid level. If not check it. There is a sensor that senses the level and temp of the fluid.
