Have you tried testing to see if the Oxygen Sensor is bad? The other issue I've seen with Fords is the IAC (Idle Air Controller) goes bad and they constantly surge up and down.

Reasons for cylinder misfires

Ford coil on plug systems are multi strike ignition (spark) under 1300 rpm then go to single strike a single cylinder misfire can be created by several things . #1 Test engine compression on a cranking engine compression it should be around 150 lbs but if gauge reads different COMPARE to other cylinders that work fine #2 check engine running compression this will be around 120 lbs then rev over 2000 rpm and check pressure drop again COMPARE to other cylinders that work fine. any drop would indicate valve train problems. #3 All internal engine is fine then external problems are present vacuum leaks and or fuel injection volume is low.

I have a 1990 ford 460 EFI cylinders 1,2,6 has no change or little in RPM when spark plug wires removed.The three spark plugs has black carbon on them. I replaced them with new ones with new wires.Co

check that the egr valve is not stuck open remove it and cover the hole on the intake side and see if it goes away or with engine running remove the vac line from the valve and install a short length of hose and suck on the hose to draw a vac on the valve it only takes 3-5 inches of vac to open it the engine should stall or run even worse if it is not stuck and if it was stuck open you didnt change anything

You didn't tell us what vehicle you have but i'll assume it's the same as your brother's car. Assuming you don't have a check engine lamp on, plugs are gapped correctly and don't have any other problems, start by warming the car to operating temperature. Disconnect the negative batt terminal for a few minutes and reconnect. Start the car and let it idle for a minute or two, put it drive and allow to idle. Go for ride and evaluate. You may just need to relearn the base idle strategy. If you had the battery disconnected for any reason this could cause the concern you listed. Good luck.

Changed spark plugs in 1993 ford thunderbird 3.8. now engine runs very rough..almost like it wants to stop running.

double check that you put in the right spark plugs. motorcraft and autolites work well. also make sure that you put the wires on in the proper order. you can find the firing order on line. one more thing is make sure that you didn't crack a spark plug putting them in. Oh and if one of your old plugs have what looks like a black crack in it you have bad wires.

Car sputtering

Hello;
You probably need the carbureator cleaned and rebuilt. The transition from idle to midrange flow is clogged. The accelerator pump diaphragm is proobably weak and worn to the point of near failure. Hope this helps.
Thanks and please rate me.
