Question about Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

Hi i have 4 cylinder 1996 dodge caravan. it only has 76,000 miles on it and the body is in good shape so i would like to fix it.we got the car two years ago and it had a stalling problem and a thrusting problem, like it wanted to pull forward at a stop.at the time we fixed the timing built, the thrusting went away the stalling did not.after two years of people saying do this and that we finally found that it was a simple map sensor which has been fixed,we also had a new fuel pump installed over this past summer.after the map sensor and fuel pump was fixed the van ran like a champ, until the past three weeks.it seems to have last power up hills and has lost power when accellerating from stop to go.we always do our oil changes and my husband believes the spark plugs where changed a year ago,he has indicated that he has never requested a new air filter at time of oil change,so i am sure it could use one. anyhow today i had the engine codes read and it came back with a code p1294 and a p0125. can these two codes be related? and to repair the codes what should i do? thank you heather

Code P1294 target idle not reached most likely need to replace the idle air control motor. can cause the car to stall or reeve up.

code P0125 engine not reaching operating temperature, most likely you need to replace the thermostat, or possible the coolant temperature sensor.

the coolant temperature could cause the slight loss in power, because if the on-board computer thinks the engine is cold it will keep the fuel rich just like if it were trying to start a cold engine.

but i think you need to replace the fuel filter, that is probably the low power.

i just had my fuel pump replaced in july 2010, wouldn't they have changed my fuel filter then?
i was told the fuel filter is in the fuel pump which is why they are expensive to replace.

my car is no longer stalling since i replaced the map sensor several months ago,but when i start the car and leave it in park it does rev a little hard and while at a stop light it idles rough.

as far as the p0125 code i know that has to do with the tempture of the car,in dec when i had an oil change at sears, they told me that my ph level was low in my antifreeze,do i need knew antifreeze?

if the ph is low then you need to flush the cooling system and replace the antifreez, but this will not cause the code, your engine is not geting warm enough, as i told you replace the thermostat, if the problem percest then replace the coolent temp sensor. and yes they should have replaced the fuel filter with the pump but you never know if they did not list it on the repair order then probley not.

How to install front struts for a dodge caravan

the strut mounts on top with three studs and on the bottom with two bolts to the spindle support, you will need a spring compressor to exchange the spring, its a good idea to install new bearing plates, when reassembling make sure the spring plate is lined up properly, get repalcement cam bolts for the bottom and then get the vehicle realigned, while you are it its a good idea to check the ball joints and tie rods for any looseness,
