You will likely need the heater hose junction (Volvo p/n 3522035) since it always leaks and it connects the heater core to the heater hoses on the firewall. The kit usually contains the retaining clips, but not the O-rings to connect to the heater core. You will also need the outlet and inlet hoses (9186847 and 9186849). The length, angles and configuration of these hoses will help you understand their orientation in the engine bay. They can only go on one way. Else, they won't connect to the pipes from the engine.

Where does the hoses go on the heater control valve


The hose from the water pump should be connected to the heater control valve. The other hose goes to the return from the heater core.

Heater is not getting hot enough


This is a very common problem on the Taurus, at least up until the 2001 model and possibly later. The Taurus design incorporates a bypass hose (near the firewall) that connects between the heater hoses entering and exiting the firewall in the engine compartment. As the Taurus ages (6 or 7 years old), the heater core under the dash increasingly gets clogged with gunk because the bypass hose provides a path for the coolant to bypass the heater core itself. The fix is to disconnect the heater hoses at the engine block (too difficult to disconnect these hoses at the firewall-no space) and flush the heater core through these hoses with a garden hose. Before doing this you must crimp (with vise grips and a rag to protect the rubber hose) the bypass hose--otherwise the flushing water will bypass the heater core. I attached the garden hose to an adapter that I could clamp into the heater hose to make the connection. How do you replace the heater core in a 1984 GMC 3500 camper


You will probably need new heater hose...first check heater hoses that run from engine to the
heater core......Most hoses will tear at the end where they are connected to the core and at the engine...First mark where each hose goes then drain coolant from system and remove both hoses...Take old hose's to parts store and get new hose's and clamps...They should be dryrotted
by the year of vehicle....It is easy to bend or break new core so be very careful when installing new core....After removing old hose's from core under hood you will know the location of the core....
remove screws under passenger side dash to remove core from inside of dash...very simple very easy....It looks like a tiny radiator with an in and an out spout...dont forget to mark where hoses
connect before removal.......Be sure and refill with new coolant/clamps/hoses because of age of vehicle...Both heater hose's that connect to the core are connected at the firewall on the passenger side of the engine...The core fits into the firewall dash and is connected to an input and an output hose...THIS IS EASY FOR BEGINNERS BUT BE CAREFUL WITH NEW CORE NOT TO BEND !!

Removal & Installation 1997-2002 To Remove:
NOTE: Heater core must be vacuum leak tested before it is remove from vehicle if a heater core leak is suspected.
  1. Drain engine coolant.
  2. Remove instrument panel.
  3. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, remove junction splash shield.
  4. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, disconnect starter relay cable. ford-03-00-3579.gif

  5. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, remove junction block bracket.
  6. Clamp inlet and outlet heater hoses.
  7. Disconnect heater hose from heater core by gently pressing it toward heater core.
  8. Remove A/C plenum demister adapter.
  9. Disconnect vacuum line.
  10. Remove 13 plenum chamber top screws.
  11. Remove blend door assembly from case.
  12. Remove heater core.
To Install:
NOTE: If needed, clean and lubricate coolant hoses with plain water.

  4. Connect vacuum line.

Can i buy pass the hose to the heater core


Yes, take one hose from the heater connection and connect that hose to the other hose connection at the engine. Take the free end just removed and connect it where the first hose connected at the heater. Hope this helps!

Easiest way to bypass a heater core is to disconnect both inlet and outlet hoses at the engine firewall. Install a right angle hose coupling in each hose. Then install a straight piece of hose to connect the two hoses.

Here is a link for you if you want to replace the heater core your self with common tools. As for the heater hose, you should see two small radiator hose going to the fire wall. You can disconnect the hose from the fire wall and connect them together, this will by pass the heater core till you replace the bad core. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know your expedition is running 100% again.

How to bypass heater core 1999


You need to disconnect the two heater hoses going into the heater core. These hoses will go from the thermostat housing or the water pump to the firewall of the vehicle. You can just disconnect the two hoses from the firewall connection and place a nipple in between the two hoses using good hose clamps to connect the two hoses. That is all you need to do to bypass the heater. Good luck.
