Question about 1992 Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

Bought a 92 Subaru Legacy wagon that started a top-side ticking sound last night, first time. Of course didn't hear that when I test drove. Someone told me it could be valves?

Hi yes ticking in early model subarus is very a common valve/lifter prob in most cases a decent oil change or anti ticking treatment can quieten it or stop the noise altogether however in some cases the noisy part may be damaged beyond repair and need to be replaced

Do you recommend a specific type/brand of oil? I just put inexpensive oil in it but know that there are oils for high mileage cars.

i use caltex oil, magnetec or edge brand or something similar it seems a lot better than most for older subarus, it may take a few hundred miles of driving to wear in and dislodge the **** but hopefully should make a diff start with the simple solution first

94 subaru legacy wagon stalls when engine is warm then starts when cool

Have the battery and alt tested for free at the local parts store.
Tell them what it's doing, and start suspecting a fuel issue.
Could be getting the right amount of fuel but not burning it. (plugs, wires, coil)
Or could not be getting enough fuel.

Still hard to say, so get the charging/power system checked first.
Let me know what you find out as I'm real curious now.

Same happened to a friend and it was the fuel pump....
Same for another friend and it was 2 bad coil packs.

My 94 subaru legacy wagon wont start. It only clicks when i turn on the key. I had starter checked and it tested good.

Hello and welcome to FIxYa!

It can be caused by a week battery. As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged or have it replaced for the starter to kick fully.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

you will have to do a number of elctrical tests to determine signal is being recieved etc.All the tests can be done with a cheap testlight'/probe.Some of the recievers/activators have internat/external fuses. The first test should be to check that the reciever/activator has a good supply of power.try that first and let me know if you need more assistance
