Ford has had many many problems over the years with taurus trannys. The bands could be worn out or the modulator valve is gone. There is also a a gear selector sensor that could be bad.

How much tranmission fluid does it take to change on a 1969 Chevy ck 1500

Around 4 to 5 quarts. BUT, I wouldn't recommend you changing the fluid. Drop the pan and catch the fluid. Inspect the pan. if there isn't chunks of metal in it, I would only replace the filter and put the old fluid back in. Transmissions that haven't been taken care of have a real nasty habit of dieing when the new fluid is put in. Be prepared for a transmission rebuild or replacement.

Transmission won't shift into overdrive

Most likely cause is the 4th gear clutch shaft splines stripped off,where as fluid will be full,mostly clean and when pan is dropped for inspection you will find moderate amount of fine steel debris on magnet.another scenario is fluid is full,dark in color and smells like burnt oil which would indicate clutch friction disc slipping to the point of burnt.i am making the assumption that other gears happen at proper times and feel good and the check engine light is not on.The most telling trans diagnoses is if pan can be dropped,too much metal or friction debris=rebuild or replace.

Assuming there is no shift solenoid problems,(1-2 solenoid OFF in 3rd gear and ON in 4th gear!) Then I would say that your transmission is broken but more often than not, is repairable. First order of business would be to remove the transmission drain pan from the bottom of the unit. Loosen the attaching bolts slowly and in a circular manner, allowing the trans fluid to drain into an appropriate size pan. Remove the last of the pan bolts, and without spilling the last of the fluid, remove the pan from the trans. Carefully inspect the fluid for the presence metal either as chunks or suspended in the fluid. Also, smell the fluid for any "burnt" oder.
The more metal you find, the more money to repair the unit.
After component repair, be sure all trouble codes are cleared.

Cannot put transmission in any gear

Is the linkage connected? If so, check the fluid level when it is running. If it is low you will have to add fluid. If it is full, check to see if it is brown and smells burnt. If yes, have the pan pulled. If it is clean inside, replace filter and fluid. If that does not do it or if there is metal or other stuff in the pan it will have to be rebuilt.

You need to have the transmission re built its time. If the transmission smells burnt it means the bands are fried and now the seals willl be gone also.

Transmission is slipping

once the tranmission starts slipping that is the end of the useable life for the tranmission, u will need an overhaul, sorry there is no repair other than that for slipping conditions.

try having your transmission filter changed there only about 15 - 20 bucks but you will have to buy transmission fluid. ive seen that solve that problem in a few vechiles. if you do it yourself there is a magnet located in the transmission pan that you have to remove to change the filter and if it is full of metal shavings i suggest asking a local transmission shop about having trouble with that type of vechicle

Hello;
If your Jetta is a manual transmission, the clutch disc facing is probably gone. If it is an automatic, there are a number of things to check. Is transmission full of fluid? Does fluid smell burnt? Is there metal inside the oil pan? Hope this helps and rate me high.
Thanks;
