The starter motor is located on the front of the engine behind the exhaust pipe and next to the oil filter.

First disconnect the battery. Next remove the flat, angular heat shield from the starter itself (1x 8mm nut and 2x 8mm bolts). Do NOT try to remove the heat shield from the Exhaust pipe - it can't be removed with the starter in place and it's not necessary anyway. Next remove the oil filter. You'll loose a few ounces of oil so be prepared for that with a drain pan and either cover the removed filter to keep debris out or replace it and remember to check the oil level later. Remove the small signal wire from the solenoid (released by pushing in a tiny lever with a finger tip) and also remove the 12mm nut attaching the positive battery cable to the starter.

The starter is held in place by two 14mm bolts. On the engine (passenger) side, there is a 14x30mm bolt threading into the transaxle from the bottom of the starter. On the transaxle (driver) side, there is a longer 14x50mm bolt threading into the top of the starter

sorry i couldnt find an actual diagram for ya, hope this helps

This helps, but man I am stuck trying to get the starter out! I can't get to the top 14mm bolt on the starter, let alone get the starter out because the exhaust is in the way, I have a 2001 mitsubishi galant.

This has been very frustrating to say the least. I tried to get the exhaust off but the bolts are froze on, and one even broke on me. Not sure what else to do other than to put it all back together and try and get it started one more time to drive it to a shop.

Been out for trying to get that starter out for 2 days now and I am out of options :( Looks like it's just too tough to get to.

Where is starter and how do you take it off

your starter is located where your transmission and engine meet. you should look around the firewall or by the radiator in the front. the starter will have two bolts that you need to remove and then it will come off. then you need to remove the wires from the starter. be sure to dis-connect the negative battery wire before performing service to vehicle.

Is the starter on a 02 galant inside the engine?

The starter is located on the side of the engine, follow the positive battery cable down to the starter, it is a round cylinder usually held in with 2/3 mounting bolts and is approx.6"round diameterX10" long.

This is not the crank sensor if the starter will not engage, and turn the engine, clean the battery terminals real good and shiny, make sure the battery is good,do not assme,if this does not help, replace the starter, this is the most likely problem, the starter is clicking.

Thermostat located at on a 2002 mitsubishi galant

Follow the bottom hose leading from the radiator to the back of the engine. You need to disconnect the battery and remove it and the panel it sits on in order to get to the thermostat housing.

2002 mitsubishi galant, how to replace the starter

It's fairly easy, albeit a tight fit. Before you start, be sure to disconnect the battery. The starter is located between the firewall and the engine, underneath fuel injection assembly. Stick your hand in there and you should be able to feel how the starter is positioned. There are 2 or 3 bolts holding the starter and they're easy to remove. You need to disconnect the wire on the starter coil (the coil is located on top of the starter itself).
Now the fun part: removing the the starter itself. The way I did it is by wriggling it out the open space on the left side of the engine, hence the tight fit. Move any cables or wires that may get in the way for more room. (Important advice: Remember, patience is a virtue!)And there ya go! To install/re-install the starter just do the reverse. It's a lot easier to put it back in than removing it. Good luck!

When you turn the key nothing happens but the battery shows full charge and all lights, radio etc work. Its a 2002 Mits Galant

hi, the problem you are describing sounds like the starter motor has packed up or a wire might have even come off the back of the starter if your sure the battry is fully charged then the chances are the problem is with the starter motor, that is where i would start looking anyway
