IS there front park lights? Sounds as if the multi-function switch is defective. The brake lights/park lights to rear run through this switch as well as the signals. ( common problem )

Have a 89 ford ranger all lights work except brake lights. I replaced the switch, fuses are good and so are the bulbs. What else could be causing the brake lights not to work??

It could be the turn signal switch, since the brake wire travels through the turn switch after it leaves the brake switch and then goes to the bulbs. That is how you get a steady brake light on one side, and a blinking light on the turning side. The rear turn signal lights and brake lights share the same filament in the bulbs (and the same wire). The wire on the turning side has to first travel through the flasher relay.
If you have a test light, first check for power out of the brake light switch with the pedal depressed. Then check for power in and power out at the turn switch connector-power in on the brake light wire and power out on either of the wires going to the rear bulbs-if no power out, the turn switch is bad-brake pedal still depressed so you still have the signal.

Is it worth my deductible

It maybe if you plan on keeping the truck, there is obvious mechanical damage to the front end weather it's minor to major I can't tell you,it may be a bent tie rod or bent wheel or the frame may be bent, either way driving the truck in this condition will damage the brakes(not the one already damaged)steering and prematurely wear your tires at the very least and could cause major damage to the rear axle, you need to get some estimates and compare them to the deductible, because it may cost just a couple of hundred to repair the mechanical problems or it could cost a couple thousand just to do the mechanical, add at least a thousand more for the body damage.Your truck books at about $3800 to $4500 with all options, but factor in the economy and It's possible the insurance may call it a total loss also,Hope this info helps.

Turn signal and brake light problem

Had the exact problem on my 98 ranger 2wd reg cab stepside with the 2.5l 4 banger. Anytime I pressed the brake my passenger side turn signal would light up solid on the dash and the lights outside. I pulled both rear lights and both headlights and turn signals to check for corrosion/loose wires. Nothing. I checked and cleaned all my grounds and fuses. Nothing. Not until I followed my rear taillights wire harness did I find the problem. The two taillights are connected to each other via wire harness. My truck had the harness split with an adapter for trailer brakes. This harness was the problem. It is located under the rear bumper by the spare tire. Simply disconnect two harness plugs going into each side and remove it. Then connect the two plugs to each other. Problem solved.
