Remove the air cleaner assembly to remove the upper bell housing bolts.you need a engine support fixture to support the engine, you have to raise van with a lift to support van, besure to remove crankshaft position sensor from the transmission bell housing.you have to drain transmission fluid in a catch pan, remove both front axles.you need transmission jack support transmission.to do this job you will need a haynes repair manual because you have a list of things need to be removed before removing transmission, you need all basic mechanic tool set.

Try doing a "Brain Kill" on the van. Disconnect both battery terminals, and (MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY!!!!!) touch and hold them together for at least 10 seconds. Mopars hold onto their faults, even after the repairs. Huge problem for transmission shops, but that's another topic. My 99 Dakota had the Speed Sensor fail, and it wouldn't shift until I "Killed" the ECM and BCM's memories.

Good Luck!!!

Will a 94 Dodge Caravan transmission fit in a 96 Plymouth Voyager

80 percent of the time the transmission problem is electrical. Pull the transmission dip stick and check the condition of the transmission fluid. If it's not burn and the transmission runs with out slipping but does not shift properly. Good chances are that it may be the Transmission control module (TCM) which is on the passenger side fender close to the headlight. Check the condition of the wire harness to the TCM, look for corrosion and try disconnection the TCM and see if there is any changes to the way the transmission performs. As for the transmission fitting, as long as the engine size are the same. the 3 liter and 3.3 liter use different transmission. Good luck and hope this helps.

It sounds like the bands in your transmission are worn out. You will need to have the transmission replaced or rebuilt.
