Hi, these lamps run on the 10 amp fuse #1. If the fuse is good, the problem may be with the switch on the transmission. You can check the switch by puling the connector off and connecting the terminals in the connector. With the key on, this should turn the lights on. If it doesn't, replace the switch. If you have an automatic transmission, the wires to connect are the red/orange and green wires on the thansmission range sensor attached where the shift cable attaches. If you have a manual transmission, the switch is screwed into the side of the transmission and has just 2 wires on the connector--connect these red/blue and green wires with a large paper clip in the connector. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I have a 99 jeep Cherokee i am trying to fix my reverse light i dit change the assambly and ligth buld and still not working can tell me what is goin on

99 XJ jeep, gas or diesel, i GUESS GAS and USA XJ jeep.
auto or stick we can not guess transmissions here EVER.

the a/t box, (auto)
uses a device called TRS/PRNDL or reverse switch.
to glow the lamps in the rear, fuses checked first.
you never said both are dead., dim or stuck on.>?
chapter 8w-51-5 (Gas) covers this. the book is free.
click Cherokee.
click wiring, behold a real matching schematic on your car.
no working blind, now.
the fuse.J10 is the backup fuse in the JB, cab box, 15amp.
that be always 1st first.
key on
in reverse
the backup switch has 12vdc in and 12vdc out
then that one wire goes to rear of car and lamp glows
if the lamp is ground,(both) BR-Lg 12vdc to all lamps
black wire is ground and 0v, in reverse.

real book not FAKE!

2005 jeep 3.7 reverse lamp not work

NO JEEP actually stated, wow
you meant lamps, right? both.
and car actually reverses ,right?
car drives perfectly , right?, all things OKAY but REV lamps. dead.????????

both REV lamps test good.
scan it to see DTC for Reverse errors yet?
what jeep? it has name and a country
wiring is not all the same,
my guess ,useless, is
the TRS range switch if failing., in the transmission
but there are 2 or 3 transmission used on the engine world wide.
so....
here is the WK JEEP 2005
Posted the SM book here 100s of times
the Wk shift console box is a computer
if you shift to Reverse it send a network command to TCM
brain, go to reverse
the TCM does that by shift solenoids in the box
the BOX, then sends back status of same
if this is correct the TCM send and activate REVR
command to TIPM ,front control that drives the BACKup-feed lamp feed
got that?
there is no dedicated fuse, just for reverses, in wk jeeps
end wk example
i see you posting for many cars
why not get and account at mitchells. and end
all this begging and guessing? sames time
and spend it fixing car and not using internet rumor guide shop and your success... really.

if you had scanned it first I bet you there is
an error, for backup lamps,I bet.

this is the NAG1 transmission(some are 545RFE box)

Reverse light not working on my fiat strada 1.4. Which one is the fuse.

The fuse for the reversing lights is F31 (listed as ignition commuter in the manual??) located in the fusebox on the passengers side for the right hand drive version & vice versa (drivers side) for LHD, very top left hand side of the fuse panel mounted horizontally unlike most of the other fuses which are mounted vertically.

Backup Lamps
The TURN SIG fuse in the console fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to park neutral position switch. When the gear selector lever is in the REVERSE position, power is supplied to both of the backup lamps. The backup lamps are grounded at G401 and G402.
Do you know what DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?
DTC B2552
The body control module (BCM) controls the backup lamp relay. The BCM grounds the backup lamp relay control circuit energizing the backup lamp relay. The BCM connects directly to the center console fuse block with no external wiring between them.
DTC B2553
The body control module (BCM) controls the backup lamp relay. The BCM grounds the backup lamps relay control circuit energizing the backup lamp relay. The BCM connects directly to the center console fuse block with no external wiring between them.
Backup Lamps Always On
  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Shift the gear selector lever to the REVERSE position and then to the PARK position.
Do the backup lamps turn on in REVERSE and turn off in PARK?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems
Go to Step 3

3

Remove the backup lamps relay.
Do the backup lamps turn OFF?
Go to Step 5
Go to Step 4

4

Repair a short in the backup lamps relay switched battery positive voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Check the back-up lamps relay #45 in the center console fuse/relay box .
Fuse Block - Center Console
Inside of console, behind the right console access panel

Check

98 jeep cherokee sport reverse lights have no power

lamps good,
fuses good. in fuse boxes.
so the reverse switch is bad.?
on the A/t car this switch is called the PRNDL switch prindle.
if the R contact goes bad (as the all do) the lamps go dead.

Backup lights

why dead,
who can fix em.
what parts. bad
how to test?
who can do the tests. ask a real question.
ill state why?
fuse blown in fuse box.
PRNDL switch in A./t box (side) is bad. wiggle shifter in reverse to see lamps flash, flash is bad. adjust shifter. if bad. pray. its not.

My reverse lights do not come on when i shift into reverse

what year? what tranny, ? a/t or m/t
the lamps if good ?
will always work if the following are good.
the fuse (see glove box oper. guide)
the tranny switch. bad.
the wires, between these?
and the lamps.?

if the fuse is good, and the lamps.(easy as pie checks) Btw lamps can short, try new ones, or one at time (hint)
then it's a hard fail.
you take a voltmeter (any ) and measure the voltage at both
pins in the TRANNY switch,
front side 12v,
person 2, keyon, and in reverse (not running the engine.)
rear pin, goes to 12v as reverse, (lil magic)
yes, ? wires cut to rear, (trailer hacks ! are 99% factor)
no?, the switch is bad. $$$$$$$ if A/T , if M/T cheap.
if say the voltage is near 6-8v (not 12 ) this is a shorted circuit.
finding shorts can be found by inspection, this feed line, Harness.

there are other methods, "hot wire or test light"
but the Voltmeter will never lie. and the hot wire way can cost 5 boxs of fuses. its always your choice.
